Security – Deadly Attacks Target Pakistani Forces in Balochistan Mastung Area
Security – Violence in Pakistan’s Balochistan province intensified on Tuesday as fresh attacks were reported in Mastung district, marking the second straight day of armed confrontations. According to local reports, one member of a paramilitary unit lost his life, while at least six others sustained injuries during coordinated assaults in the region.

Renewed Attacks in Mastung’s Dasht Region
Sources indicated that armed assailants launched multiple strikes on security personnel in the Dasht area. During these incidents, two vehicles belonging to the forces were destroyed in separate locations. There were also reports suggesting that weapons were taken from personnel who were killed during the clashes.
Officials confirmed that Rehmatullah Khilji, an officer associated with anti-terrorism operations, was among those killed. Several others were wounded and received medical attention. While authorities acknowledged casualties, some local accounts suggested the possibility of a higher death toll, though no official confirmation has been provided beyond the initial figures.
Operation in Kambela Triggers Escalation
The latest violence appears to be linked to an operation initiated by security forces in the Kambela area on Sunday. Troops had reportedly sealed off parts of the locality as part of a search operation. During the movement of personnel, armed individuals engaged the forces, leading to an exchange of fire.
Residents in nearby areas described hearing continuous gunfire and explosions. In Kund Masuri, close to a security camp, intense fighting reportedly continued for nearly an hour, raising concerns among local communities about safety and stability in the region.
Earlier Ambush Adds to Tensions
The situation had already been tense earlier in the week. On Sunday, two military vehicles were reportedly ambushed near Daghari Cross. The convoy was said to be on patrol duty aimed at securing a train route when one of the vehicles came under attack, resulting in casualties.
This sequence of incidents highlights a pattern of targeted assaults on security personnel and infrastructure in the region, particularly along key transit routes.
BLA Claims Series of Attacks Across Province
Separately, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), an armed separatist group, claimed responsibility for a series of coordinated attacks carried out earlier this month. According to statements attributed to the group, at least 29 military personnel were killed in 14 separate incidents between April 3 and April 14 across various districts of Balochistan.
The group said its operations were conducted in areas including Panjgur, Kharan, Surab, Washuk, Uthal, Mastung, and Jhal Magsi. Targets reportedly included military convoys, checkpoints, and supply routes.
Methods and Strategic Claims
In its statement, a spokesperson for the group outlined the tactics used during these operations. These included ambushes, improvised explosive devices, and what were described as drone-based strikes. The group also claimed that certain highways and checkpoints were temporarily brought under its control during the operations.
Additionally, it stated that several Levies and police personnel were detained during these actions and later released. The claims could not be independently verified, and authorities have not publicly confirmed these details.
Ongoing Security Challenges
The recent incidents underline the continuing security challenges faced in Balochistan, a region that has witnessed periodic unrest for years. Repeated attacks on security forces, combined with large-scale operations, have contributed to an environment of uncertainty for both residents and authorities.
Officials have not yet issued a detailed statement outlining further action following the latest attacks. However, the situation remains closely monitored as security forces continue their presence in affected areas.
