Infrastructure – CDS Anil Chauhan Launches Cultural Centre at Mana Border Village
Infrastructure – The Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, on Thursday marked a significant step toward preserving regional heritage by laying the foundation stone for the Shaurya Cultural and Traditional Centre at Mana, located along the Indo-China border. Often referred to as the ‘First Village of India,’ Mana will soon host a dedicated space highlighting the rich traditions and military legacy of the Garhwal region.

Cultural Centre to Showcase Heritage and Military Legacy
The upcoming Shaurya Cultural and Traditional Centre aims to serve as a platform that brings together local customs, spiritual traditions, and the region’s longstanding martial history. Officials stated that the facility will highlight the contributions of the Garhwal region while also reinforcing a sense of national unity.
Developed in collaboration with the Uttarakhand government, the centre is expected to blend cultural preservation with modern infrastructure. Authorities believe it will not only safeguard local traditions but also attract visitors interested in understanding the historical and strategic importance of the border region.
Defence Leadership Highlights National Integration
In an official communication shared on social media, the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff described the initiative as a landmark effort. It noted that the project represents a meaningful combination of heritage revival and national integration in a region known for both its spiritual significance and strategic importance.
The leadership emphasized that such initiatives strengthen the connection between local communities and the broader national identity, particularly in border areas where development and cultural preservation often go hand in hand.
Rapid Development Across Uttarakhand
Parallel to this cultural initiative, Uttarakhand has witnessed accelerated development over the past four years. Government officials highlighted that coordinated efforts between the central and state administrations have significantly boosted infrastructure growth across multiple sectors.
With strong policy backing and consistent funding, projects worth approximately Rs. 2 lakh crore are currently underway in the state. These initiatives cover a wide range of areas, including transportation, tourism, healthcare, and industrial expansion.
Major Infrastructure Projects Near Completion
Among the key projects, the All-Weather Road initiative continues to progress steadily, aiming to ensure smoother access to the Char Dham pilgrimage circuit. This project is expected to improve travel conditions and enhance safety for pilgrims throughout the year.
Connectivity has also received a major push with the development of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. Additionally, several road projects are advancing in phases, including routes such as Sitarganj-Tanakpur, Paonta Sahib-Dehradun, Bhaniyawala-Rishikesh, and the Kathgodam-Lalkuan-Haldwani bypass. Work on the Rudrapur bypass is also moving forward.
Rail and Station Upgrades Strengthen Connectivity
Rail infrastructure in the state is also nearing a major milestone. The Rishikesh-Karnaprayag railway project is close to completion and is expected to significantly improve access to hilly regions.
In addition, the central government has approved a major railway project connecting Tanakpur to Bageshwar, with an estimated cost of Rs. 48,000 crore. Efforts are also underway to modernize 11 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, further enhancing passenger facilities and regional connectivity.
Balanced Focus on Growth and Heritage
Officials underline that Uttarakhand’s development strategy balances infrastructure expansion with cultural preservation. Projects like the Shaurya Cultural and Traditional Centre reflect this approach by combining economic growth with efforts to protect local identity and traditions.
As these initiatives progress, the state is positioning itself as both a cultural hub and a strategically significant region with improved accessibility and modern facilities.
