LawAndOrder – Army Officer, Son Attacked After Objecting to Public Drinking

LawAndOrder –  The alleged assault of an Indian Army officer and his son in southwest Delhi has raised fresh questions about law enforcement response and public conduct in residential neighborhoods.

Army officer son assault case

An Indian Army brigadier and his son were reportedly attacked late Saturday evening in the Vasant Enclave locality after they objected to two individuals consuming alcohol inside a parked car near their home. The officer, identified as Brigadier Parminder Singh Arora, was on leave at the time of the incident, according to an official statement.

Objection Leads to Confrontation

According to the brigadier’s son, the incident unfolded after dinner when both stepped out for a walk. Near the society’s exit, they noticed two individuals drinking inside a vehicle. The officer approached them and pointed out that drinking in a residential area was inappropriate.

The response, however, quickly escalated the situation. The individuals reportedly asserted that they were locals and dismissed the concern, telling the officer and his son not to interfere. The situation intensified when the brigadier asked his son to contact the police.

Delay in Police Arrival and Escalation

The son stated that it took approximately 15 to 20 minutes for the police control room (PCR) vehicle to arrive after the call was made. During this time, the individuals in the car allegedly made phone calls.

Soon after, multiple people arrived at the scene in two separate vehicles. The group allegedly began assaulting both the brigadier and his son. The attack reportedly took place before the police could effectively intervene.

Army and Police Response

In its official communication, the Indian Army confirmed that the officer is currently serving and was on leave in Delhi when the incident occurred. The Army stated that a military police team has been directed to assist the officer and that Delhi Police has been approached for a prompt investigation and necessary action.

Delhi Police officials confirmed that a case has been registered based on a complaint filed by the officer’s wife. Authorities stated that an investigation is underway and efforts are being made to identify and locate the accused individuals.

A senior officer also indicated that preliminary findings pointed to procedural lapses on the part of the investigating officer. As a result, the concerned inspector has been moved to district lines.

Allegations of Police Inaction

The brigadier’s wife has raised serious concerns regarding the conduct of the police personnel present at the scene. She alleged that the accused individuals used abusive language and made inappropriate remarks, prompting the family to seek police assistance rather than retaliate.

According to her account, when the police arrived, one of the individuals in the car spoke to the officer. While her statement was being recorded, additional attackers arrived and allegedly assaulted her son. She claimed that instead of intervening, the policeman returned to the PCR vehicle and did not take immediate action to stop the assault.

She further stated that when she requested help again, the officer reportedly expressed inability to confront a large group alone and said he was waiting for backup. However, no additional support arrived during the incident.

Concerns Raised After Incident

The family has also expressed dissatisfaction with their experience at the police station, alleging that they were not treated respectfully during the complaint process.

The incident has drawn attention to issues of public safety, timely police response, and accountability in handling such situations. Authorities have assured that the matter is being investigated and that appropriate action will be taken against those involved.
