Crime – Woman and Nephew Held for Theft in Delhi Residence Case
Crime – A woman has been accused of gaining access to a friend’s home under a false pretext and later stealing cash and jewellery worth lakhs in Delhi’s Sultanpuri area.

A case of alleged theft in outer Delhi has led to the arrest of a woman and her nephew after police uncovered details of a planned burglary involving stolen keys and prior familiarity with the victim. The incident, reported earlier this week, has raised concerns about trust-based access being misused for criminal activity.
Entry Gained Through Familiarity
According to investigators, the accused woman had known the complainant for several years and used that relationship to her advantage. She reportedly borrowed the house key, claiming she needed it temporarily to apply mehendi. Authorities believe this request was part of a calculated plan to gain access to the property without raising suspicion.
Police said that the house remained locked when the theft occurred, indicating that the accused used the key to enter discreetly. The incident is believed to have taken place between 1 pm and 5 pm on April 4, during which valuables were removed without immediate detection.
CCTV Footage Provided Key Clues
Surveillance footage from nearby cameras played a crucial role in advancing the investigation. The recordings reportedly showed a man entering the premises along with a woman dressed in a burqa. Both individuals were seen carrying a bag, which police suspect was used to transport the stolen items.
Based on this footage, officers began tracking potential suspects in the area. The visual evidence helped narrow down the search and eventually led authorities to a breakthrough.
Arrest Made During Attempt to Sell Jewellery
On April 7, police apprehended a 22-year-old man identified as Rajinder while he was allegedly attempting to sell part of the stolen jewellery. During questioning, he admitted his involvement in the crime and revealed that he had acted in coordination with his aunt.
Following his confession, law enforcement officials were able to recover a significant portion of the stolen property. Police confirmed that cash amounting to approximately 1.92 lakh, along with some jewellery items, had been retrieved.
Second Accused Taken Into Custody
Acting on the information provided by Rajinder, police later arrested the woman believed to be the main conspirator in the case. Officials stated that she had played a central role in planning and executing the theft.
Investigators are continuing to examine the case to determine whether others may have been involved or if additional stolen items remain unaccounted for. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of further recoveries as the probe progresses.
Ongoing Investigation
Police officials confirmed that the investigation is still underway and more details are expected to emerge in the coming days. They are also reviewing whether similar methods have been used in other incidents in the area.
This case highlights the importance of caution when granting access to personal spaces, even to known individuals. Authorities have advised residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity promptly.
