Prime Minister Calls for Strong Voter Participation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged citizens in all three regions to participate actively in the electoral process. In separate messages, he appealed particularly to young voters and women to come forward in large numbers and contribute to strengthening democracy. He emphasized that elections should be seen not only as a civic responsibility but also as a celebration of democratic values.

He urged voters in Assam to make their voices heard, while in Kerala, he highlighted the importance of record participation to reinforce the state’s democratic spirit. A similar message was shared for Puducherry, where he stressed that every vote plays a role in shaping the region’s future.

Kerala Sees Large Electorate and Early Momentum

Kerala has a sizable electorate of approximately 2.71 crore voters who will decide the next government. Even before polling officially began, election officials had already facilitated voting for nearly two lakh individuals through home voting arrangements, ensuring inclusivity for those unable to visit polling stations.

As the campaign period concluded, political parties intensified their final outreach efforts. Candidates across major alliances engaged with undecided voters and influential community figures, reflecting the competitive nature of the contest.

Assam Faces Key Political Contest

In Assam, the election is being closely watched as a direct contest between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress. The BJP is aiming to secure a third consecutive term, while the Congress is attempting to return to power after nearly a decade.

Polling is being conducted in a single phase and will continue until 5 p.m. Early reports indicated a steady turnout, with long queues forming outside polling stations soon after voting began. The current Assembly’s tenure is set to end on May 20, adding urgency to the outcome.

Puducherry Polls Hold Strategic Importance

Voting in Puducherry has also progressed smoothly, with voters turning up steadily across polling booths. The Union Territory is currently governed by a coalition led by the All India N.R. Congress under Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, supported by the BJP.

The election is considered significant as multiple political groups are competing to gain control of the Assembly. Authorities have implemented extensive measures to ensure that the voting process remains orderly, transparent, and secure.

Election Authorities Ensure Preparedness

Election officials across all three regions reported that comprehensive arrangements were made to conduct the polls efficiently. Security personnel, polling staff, and logistical systems were deployed well in advance to manage voter turnout and maintain order.

Officials reiterated their commitment to conducting free and fair elections, with systems in place to address any irregularities promptly. Voters have been encouraged to follow guidelines and participate responsibly.

Strong Turnout Expected Throughout the Day

With early enthusiasm visible among voters, authorities anticipate a robust turnout as the day progresses. The participation of young voters and women, as highlighted by the Prime Minister, is expected to play a significant role in shaping the final outcome.

As polling continues, the focus remains on ensuring a smooth process while maintaining transparency and fairness. The results, to be declared in early May, will determine the political direction of these regions for the coming years.
