Elections – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin intensified his criticism of the opposition during a public rally in Cuddalore, taking direct aim at the AIADMK leadership and its political alignment with the BJP.

Sharp Criticism of Opposition Leadership

Speaking to supporters at Manjakuppam grounds, Stalin questioned the credibility of AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami. He alleged that Palaniswami’s association with the BJP was driven by a need to shield himself from past mistakes. According to Stalin, this alliance has significantly altered the identity of the AIADMK, suggesting that the party no longer operates independently in its political decisions.

He further challenged Palaniswami to present his achievements, asking whether he had clearly communicated his contributions to the people of Tamil Nadu at any point.

Concerns Over Development and Infrastructure

The Chief Minister also criticized the central government’s track record in the state, claiming that major development projects have been lacking. He cited an example of a flyover near Chidambaram, which reportedly suffered damage due to poor construction quality, as evidence of inadequate oversight.

Stalin argued that such instances reflect broader issues in governance and project implementation, raising questions about accountability and efficiency.

Highlighting DMK’s Governance Record

In contrast, Stalin emphasized the performance of his own administration. He stated that his government has worked to reverse the setbacks experienced during the previous decade under AIADMK rule. He pointed to economic growth figures, claiming that the state’s growth rate has seen a significant rise under his leadership.

Describing Tamil Nadu as a globally recognized “superstar state,” he credited the government’s policies for improving infrastructure, welfare delivery, and economic stability.

Call for Continued Mandate

Stalin urged voters to support what he described as the continuation of the “Dravidian Model 2.0,” asserting that his party remains committed to fulfilling its promises. He framed the upcoming election as a choice between consistent governance and uncertainty.

He also questioned whether opposition leaders would be able to act independently, particularly in matters involving decisions from the central leadership.

Welfare Schemes and State Rights Debate

A key part of Stalin’s speech focused on welfare programs. He warned that initiatives such as free electricity and free bus travel for women could be discontinued if the NDA gains power in the state. These schemes, he said, are crucial for social equity and economic support.

The Chief Minister also raised concerns about certain national-level policies, including proposals related to simultaneous elections, tax changes, and constituency restructuring. He argued that these measures could weaken the autonomy of states and affect regional priorities.

Electoral Battle Takes Shape

The upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in a single phase on April 23, with vote counting set for May 4. The political contest is expected to be closely fought.

On one side is the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, which includes several regional and national partners. On the other is the National Democratic Alliance, led in the state by AIADMK along with its allies.

Adding a new dimension to the contest, actor-turned-politician Vijay is preparing to enter the electoral fray with his party, potentially influencing voter dynamics and making the election more competitive.

A Crucial Moment for Voters

As campaigning intensifies, the election is shaping up to be a significant moment for Tamil Nadu’s political future. With debates centered on governance, welfare, and state autonomy, voters will play a decisive role in determining the direction of the state in the coming years.
