Weather – Rain Brings Temporary Relief as Temperatures Dip Across Delhi-NCR
Weather – national capital and surrounding regions experienced a welcome spell of rain on Tuesday morning, offering brief relief from the recent rise in temperatures. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a yellow alert has been issued for April 7 and 8, with predictions of gusty winds, overcast skies, intermittent rainfall, and isolated thunderstorms across Delhi-NCR.

Rainfall Expected to Continue Over the Next Two Days
The IMD has indicated that residents may witness one or two spells of light to moderate rain or thunderstorms during this period. Cloud cover is likely to persist through April 9, maintaining relatively cooler conditions. However, from April 10 onward, the weather is expected to stabilize, with clearer skies and a gradual increase in temperatures. Daytime highs could climb to around 33 to 34 degrees Celsius by the end of the week.
Western Disturbance Influencing Regional Weather
Meteorologists attribute the sudden change in weather to an active western disturbance affecting northern India. This system is expected to bring stronger winds and a noticeable dip in temperatures across the National Capital Region and nearby areas. Nighttime and early morning temperatures may fall by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, leading to cooler conditions during these hours.
Temperature Trends Show Slight Decline
Before the rainfall, weather conditions on Monday remained within seasonal norms. The minimum temperature was recorded at 21 degrees Celsius, while the maximum reached 33 degrees Celsius. For April 7, forecasts suggest the minimum temperature may hover around 20 degrees Celsius, with the maximum likely near 31 degrees Celsius. On April 8, a further dip is expected, with the minimum temperature potentially dropping to 18 degrees Celsius while the maximum remains steady at around 31 degrees Celsius.
Air Quality Remains in Moderate Category
Alongside the changing weather, Delhi’s air quality on Tuesday was recorded in the moderate range, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 134. Experts suggest that air quality is likely to remain within this category until at least April 9, supported by improved dispersion conditions due to wind activity and rainfall.
AQI Levels Across Key Locations
On Monday, air quality readings across various parts of Delhi and neighboring areas largely stayed within the moderate bracket, though some pockets recorded higher levels. Anand Vihar reported an AQI of 212, indicating poorer air quality compared to other areas. Ashok Vihar recorded 118, while Bawana stood at 143. Chandni Chowk reported 110, and RK Puram, along with CRRI Mathura Road, showed a reading of 134.
In nearby Ghaziabad, AQI levels also reflected moderate conditions. Indirapuram recorded 149, Sanjay Nagar reported 167, and Vasundhara stood at 158. These figures suggest that while pollution levels remain manageable, certain areas continue to experience localized variations.
Outlook for the Coming Days
Overall, the short spell of rain and cloud cover is expected to provide temporary respite from rising heat levels. However, as skies clear later in the week, temperatures are likely to rise again, marking a return to typical early summer conditions in the region. Residents are advised to stay updated with weather forecasts, especially in view of possible thunderstorms and gusty winds over the next two days.
