ElectionCampaign – TVK Leaders Intensify Grassroots Push Ahead of Tamil Nadu Polls

ElectionCampaign – Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has stepped up its election outreach efforts, with party General Secretary Aadhav Arjuna engaging directly with voters through an extensive door-to-door campaign in Chennai on Tuesday. The initiative comes as political activity intensifies in the run-up to the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Strong Public Engagement in Villivakkam

Aadhav Arjuna, who is contesting from the Villivakkam constituency, reported an encouraging response from residents during his campaign visits. Interacting closely with households across the area, he noted a visible sense of optimism among voters. According to him, the campaign has been marked by consistent public participation, with people expressing their expectations and support openly.

Speaking about the reception, Arjuna said that the interactions reflected a growing connection between the party and local communities. He added that the response across neighborhoods has strengthened his confidence as the election approaches.

Legal Challenge Over Campaign Conduct

Meanwhile, the party faced a legal development earlier in the day involving its chief, Vijay. A case was registered at the Peravallur Police Station in Chennai following allegations of violating the Model Code of Conduct during a recent campaign event.

The complaint, filed by an election monitoring officer, cited multiple concerns, including the use of an excessive number of loudspeakers, obstruction of emergency vehicle movement, and the gathering of a large crowd that reportedly caused inconvenience to the public. Authorities have initiated action based on these claims.

Vijay Files Nomination Amid Massive Roadshow

On Monday, Vijay formally entered the electoral contest by filing his nomination from the Perambur constituency. The filing was accompanied by a large-scale roadshow that drew significant public attention. Supporters gathered in large numbers, lining the streets and surrounding the campaign convoy as it moved through the area.

Vijay is contesting from two constituencies—Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East—marking a significant political step as he makes his electoral debut. In both seats, he faces established candidates from the ruling DMK, adding further intensity to the contest.

Political Landscape in Key Constituencies

Perambur has historically held political significance, previously being a stronghold of CPI(M) until 2016. The seat is currently represented by DMK leader R.D. Sekar, who secured it in a 2019 by-election. Tiruchirappalli East, the other constituency Vijay is contesting from, is represented by another DMK legislator, making both contests closely watched.

The evolving dynamics suggest that the upcoming election may see a more competitive environment, with emerging players attempting to challenge established political alliances.

Party Raises Concerns Over Security Arrangements

Amid the campaign activities, TVK has also raised concerns regarding the lack of adequate police support during its events. The party alleged that despite obtaining necessary permissions, there was insufficient security presence and traffic management during Vijay’s roadshow.

In a public statement, the party expressed apprehension over the safety and logistical challenges faced during campaign movements. It urged the Election Commission to step in and ensure fair and balanced administrative support for all political parties.

TVK further called for immediate action to address what it described as uneven enforcement by local authorities, emphasizing the need for proper security arrangements and smooth traffic regulation during campaign events.

Tamil Nadu Prepares for Single-Phase Voting

Tamil Nadu is set to vote in a single phase on April 23, covering all 234 constituencies across the state. The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4. With major alliances already in place, the entry of new political contenders like TVK is expected to influence the overall electoral landscape.

As campaigning continues to gather pace, parties are focusing on voter outreach, public engagement, and addressing local issues to strengthen their positions ahead of polling day.
