Economy – India Responds Firmly to West Asia Crisis Amid Global Disruptions
Economy – India is actively addressing the ripple effects of the ongoing conflict in West Asia, with the government outlining measures to protect domestic stability and reduce external vulnerabilities.

Government Addresses Impact of West Asia Conflict
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday stated that India is tackling the economic and supply challenges triggered by the prolonged conflict in West Asia with determination and preparedness. Speaking at the inauguration of the Noida International Airport in Jewar, he highlighted the global strain on essential commodities such as fuel, food, and energy resources.
He noted that the conflict, which has continued for over a month, has disrupted supply chains worldwide. According to the Prime Minister, several countries are grappling with rising costs and shortages, and India is no exception. However, he emphasized that the country is responding with coordinated efforts to ensure stability and minimize the burden on citizens.
Focus on Energy Security and Domestic Relief
The Prime Minister underlined India’s reliance on crude oil and gas imports from regions affected by the conflict. He assured that the government is taking proactive steps to shield households and farmers from price shocks.
He also pointed to the growing role of ethanol blending in reducing dependence on imported fuel. Increased ethanol production, driven largely by agricultural output, has significantly cut down the need for crude oil imports. He stated that without this initiative, India would have needed to import an additional 4.5 crore barrels of crude oil annually.
According to him, this shift has not only strengthened energy security but also provided financial benefits. The country has reportedly saved around Rs 1.5 lakh crore in foreign exchange due to reduced imports, while farmers have gained from increased demand for ethanol-producing crops.
Noida International Airport Marks New Development Phase
During the same event, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Noida International Airport, describing it as a major step forward in the development of both Uttar Pradesh and the country. He said the project represents progress toward a more connected and economically vibrant India.
The airport is expected to play a significant role in boosting regional growth, particularly in western Uttar Pradesh. It is anticipated to generate employment opportunities for farmers, small business owners, and young professionals in the area.
Expanding Aviation Sector Creates Opportunities
Highlighting the rapid expansion of India’s aviation sector, the Prime Minister said that increasing air travel demand has led airlines to place large orders for new aircraft. This growth is expected to create substantial employment opportunities across multiple roles, including operations, maintenance, and technical services.
To support this expansion, the government is also investing in training infrastructure within the aviation sector. These efforts aim to equip the workforce with the necessary skills to meet industry demands in the coming years.
Infrastructure and Capacity Highlights
The Noida International Airport project, being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 11,200 crore, is designed as a multi-modal transport hub. It will integrate road, rail, metro, and regional transport systems to ensure seamless connectivity.
In its initial phase, the airport will be capable of handling 12 million passengers annually, with plans to expand capacity to 70 million passengers in the future. Additionally, the cargo hub is expected to handle over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes per year initially, with the potential to scale up to approximately 18 lakh metric tonnes.
Security and Official Presence
The event was attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, and other senior officials. Authorities had implemented detailed security arrangements for the Prime Minister’s visit, ensuring smooth proceedings.
The Prime Minister also toured the airport terminal to review the facilities and infrastructure firsthand.
