LPGShortage – Delhi Police Bust Illegal Cylinder Hoarding, 450 Units Seized
LPGShortage – In a significant move to curb illegal activities linked to cooking gas distribution, Delhi Police have confiscated more than 450 LPG cylinders from a gas agency in the Ranhola area. Authorities have also initiated legal proceedings against the agency’s owner following allegations of hoarding and black marketing.

Raid Conducted After Specific Intelligence Input
According to senior police officials, the operation was launched after receiving credible information about unauthorized storage of LPG cylinders. Acting swiftly, a dedicated team was assembled under the supervision of ACP Raj Kumar to verify the claims.
The team conducted a raid at a gas agency located in Ranhola village. During the inspection, the owner, identified as Susheel Kumar Singhal, a resident of Nihal Vihar, was allegedly found storing a large number of cylinders without proper authorization.
Officials Involved in On-Site Action
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Harsh Indora, confirmed that the Food Supply Officer (FSO) was immediately called to the location. The officer carried out necessary procedures in accordance with established regulatory guidelines.
Following the seizure, all recovered cylinders were handed over to the designated sales area manager of the concerned gas company to ensure proper redistribution within the legal framework.
Legal Case Registered Under Relevant Laws
Police have registered a case under Section 7 of the Essential Commodities Act along with Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Officials stated that a detailed investigation is currently underway to determine the full extent of the alleged malpractice.
During the raid, authorities recovered a total of 459 empty commercial LPG cylinders. Investigators believe the scale of the operation indicates a deliberate attempt to manipulate supply.
Allegations of Artificial Shortage and Price Manipulation
Preliminary findings suggest that the accused misused his position as a licensed distributor to accumulate excess stock. Instead of following legal distribution norms, he allegedly stored cylinders to exploit fluctuations in supply.
Police officials indicated that such actions may have been aimed at creating an artificial shortage in the market. By restricting availability, the accused could potentially sell the cylinders at inflated prices in the open market while masking them as part of routine inventory.
Swift Action Prevents Consumer Impact
Authorities emphasized that timely intervention helped prevent unfair profiteering and safeguarded consumer interests. The crackdown ensured that essential LPG supplies remain accessible to the public at regulated rates.
Officials also reiterated their commitment to monitoring distribution networks closely to prevent similar violations in the future.
