Sports – The Uttar Pradesh government has extended official recognition to Indian cricketer Rinku Singh by offering him a significant administrative role, highlighting the state’s continued push to support sporting talent.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday announced that Rinku Singh has been appointed as a Regional Sports Officer, acknowledging his contributions to Indian cricket and his achievements on the international stage. The announcement came during a state event where appointment letters and financial rewards were distributed to athletes who have excelled in global competitions.
Government Push to Support Athletes
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister underlined that Uttar Pradesh has taken a leading role in providing employment opportunities to sportspersons. He noted that more than 500 athletes have already been inducted into government services, particularly in police departments. According to him, this initiative reflects the state’s commitment to ensuring long-term stability and recognition for players who bring laurels to the country.
Rinku Singh’s appointment, he added, is a result of both his cricketing performances and his role in India’s success at events like the Asian Games. However, the cricketer was not present at the ceremony as he is currently engaged in preparations for the upcoming Indian Premier League season.

Rinku Singh became a household name during the 2023 IPL season after delivering a remarkable performance for Kolkata Knight Riders. In a high-pressure chase against Gujarat Titans, he struck five consecutive sixes in the final over, turning the match dramatically in his team’s favor.
