The incident occurred amid growing public anger surrounding the disappearance and subsequent recovery of the six individuals, who were reportedly taken from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13, 2026. Authorities have yet to release detailed information regarding the fire at the political party’s office.

Bodies Brought to Imphal Under Heavy Security

Earlier in the day, the remains of the six men were transported to the mortuary of the Jawaharlal Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal. Security forces maintained a strong presence throughout the transfer process to prevent any disruption and to ensure public order.

The six men had been reported missing since May 13. According to community representatives, they were allegedly abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village before losing contact with their families. Their bodies were recovered after weeks of uncertainty, intensifying grief and concern among local residents.

Community Leaders Express Deep Shock

Speaking to journalists, Liangmai Naga Council President Timothy Wizunamei said the news had left the community devastated. He noted that families had spent weeks hoping for the safe return of their loved ones but were instead confronted with tragic confirmation of their deaths.

According to Wizunamei, although the bodies had arrived at the JNIMS mortuary, formal identification had not yet been completed. Family members and community leaders were waiting for the verification process before confirming the identities of the deceased.

He explained that the next course of action, including whether the bodies would be officially claimed, would be determined collectively by relatives and community representatives after identification procedures were completed.

Concerns Raised Over Delay in Recovery

Community leaders also voiced dissatisfaction regarding the time taken to recover and transport the bodies. Wizunamei questioned the pace of official action, stating that nearly four weeks had passed before the remains reached Imphal.

He further mentioned reports circulating within the community that the bodies might have suffered severe damage. However, he emphasized that no conclusions could be drawn until the sealed containers were opened and examined by the appropriate authorities.

Chief Minister Condemns Separate Killing

Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh expressed condolences over another violent incident reported from Tamenglong district.

In a statement, the Chief Minister condemned the killing of a farmer from Lansan Kuki village and extended sympathy to the bereaved family. The incident has added to concerns over law and order in several parts of the state, where tensions continue to affect local communities.

As investigations continue into both cases, authorities are expected to provide further updates regarding the identification of the six bodies and the circumstances surrounding their deaths. Community organizations and local residents remain focused on obtaining answers and ensuring accountability in the aftermath of the tragedy.
