AIImpactSummit – BJP Targets Congress Over Protest at Global Tech Meet
AIImpactSummit – The political confrontation surrounding the India AI Impact Summit intensified over the weekend as rival parties exchanged sharp accusations following a protest at the international gathering in New Delhi.

The national capital witnessed a large demonstration on Saturday as leaders and workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party gathered to criticise the Congress party’s conduct during the high-profile summit on artificial intelligence. The event, held at Bharat Mandapam, drew delegates, innovators and policymakers from more than 80 countries.
BJP Accuses Congress of Politicising Global Event
Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva alleged that the opposition had crossed political limits by staging protests linked to an international forum. Speaking to party supporters, he argued that the AI summit was a global platform rather than a domestic political rally and should have remained free from partisan disruptions.
Sachdeva claimed that targeting the Prime Minister at such a forum reflected a broader pattern of political confrontation. According to him, the protest shifted attention away from India’s technological initiatives and global collaborations in the field of artificial intelligence.
Strong Reaction from BJP Leaders
Echoing similar sentiments, BJP Member of Parliament Manoj Tiwari criticised the Congress party and suggested that citizens would not view the protest favourably. He pointed out that international representatives had participated in large numbers and had expressed appreciation for India’s technological ambitions.
Tiwari said the summit showcased the country’s growing role in digital innovation and AI development. In his remarks to the media, he emphasised that such events were designed to project India’s capabilities on the global stage and strengthen international partnerships.
Union Minister Slams Youth Wing Protest
Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw also weighed in on the controversy. Addressing reporters after visiting the summit exhibition area, he described the protest by the Indian Youth Congress as disruptive and inappropriate.
Vaishnaw said he had interacted with several exhibitors and startup representatives who participated in the AI expo. According to him, many of them expressed disappointment over the disturbance during the summit proceedings. He added that the event had generated strong enthusiasm, even in its later stages, with innovators presenting advanced technical solutions and emerging AI applications.
The minister further accused the Congress of failing to support initiatives aimed at empowering young entrepreneurs and technology professionals. He described the protest as contrary to the interests of India’s youth and innovation ecosystem.
Youth Congress Stages Demonstration at Venue
The controversy stems from a protest held a day earlier at Bharat Mandapam, where members of the Indian Youth Congress demonstrated against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the demonstration, several protesters removed their shirts in what they described as a symbolic act of dissent.
In a public statement shared by the organisation, the youth wing said it was raising concerns over what it termed a “compromised” leadership at the AI Summit. The group alleged that the country’s identity and interests were not being adequately protected during international engagements.
Security personnel intervened at the venue, and police later detained the protesters. Officials did not report any injuries or major disruptions beyond the brief demonstration.
Summit Highlights India’s AI Ambitions
Despite the political exchanges, the India AI Impact Summit continued with scheduled sessions and exhibitions. The event featured discussions on artificial intelligence governance, ethical frameworks, startup innovation and cross-border collaboration. Representatives from multiple countries participated in panel discussions and technology showcases.
Government officials have described the summit as part of India’s broader push to strengthen its position in emerging technologies and digital infrastructure. The presence of international delegates was presented as a sign of growing global engagement in India’s AI sector.
As political reactions continue, the episode has underscored the increasing intersection of technology policy and domestic politics. While the ruling party has framed the protest as an attempt to undermine a global initiative, the opposition maintains that it was exercising democratic dissent.
