LiquorSeizure – Massive Destruction Drive Targets Illicit Alcohol in Gopalganj
LiquorSeizure – In a decisive step against the illegal liquor trade, authorities in Bihar’s Gopalganj district have destroyed more than 12,000 litres of confiscated alcohol during a large-scale operation led by the Excise Department and local police.

The destruction drive, carried out under tight security, involved both Indian-made and foreign liquor valued at several crores of rupees. Officials confirmed that the seized alcohol had been collected from multiple police stations across the district before being disposed of in a coordinated exercise.
Joint Operation Across Police Jurisdictions
According to officials, the crackdown covered nearly 100 separate cases. Of these, around 20 were registered by the Excise Department, while approximately 80 were linked to various police stations. All the seized liquor from these cases was destroyed simultaneously to streamline the process and maintain transparency.
The operation was jointly supervised by senior excise officials, police officers, and an appointed magistrate. Authorities said this arrangement ensured that all legal procedures were strictly followed and documented.
Strict Protocol Followed During Destruction
Before disposal, the confiscated liquor was transported to designated sites under security cover. Large pits were dug at these locations, and bulldozers were used to crush and destroy the alcohol stock completely. Officials explained that this method eliminates any possibility of the liquor re-entering the illegal market.
The destruction took place at the Balthari check post under the Kuchaykot police station limits and at identified locations near the airport area that fall within Mirganj police station jurisdiction. Both sites were secured throughout the operation.
Officials Emphasize Transparency and Accountability
Excise Superintendent Amitesh Kumar Jha stated that approximately 12,000 litres of liquor linked to 100 cases were eliminated during the drive. He noted that the seized stock had a market value running into crores of rupees. The superintendent added that the exercise was conducted under the watch of police authorities and magistrates to ensure compliance with established rules.
He further indicated that similar destruction drives will continue in the future as part of ongoing enforcement efforts.
Ongoing Campaign Against Illegal Liquor
Bihar has been under a complete prohibition policy for several years. Despite the ban, authorities continue to intercept attempts by smugglers to transport and distribute alcohol illegally within the state.
Officials from the Excise Department said that the district administration is running a sustained campaign against unlawful liquor trade. As part of this effort, seized alcohol is destroyed periodically once legal formalities are completed.
Law enforcement agencies believe that regular disposal of confiscated liquor not only prevents storage-related risks but also sends a clear message to those involved in smuggling and illegal distribution networks.
Strong Message to Smugglers
The coordinated action in Gopalganj is being viewed by officials as a firm warning to individuals engaged in illicit alcohol trade. By publicly destroying large quantities of seized liquor under official supervision, authorities aim to demonstrate that enforcement measures are active and ongoing.
Police and excise teams have reiterated their commitment to maintaining strict vigilance across checkpoints and border areas. They have also urged residents to report suspicious activities related to illegal alcohol.
With prohibition still firmly in place, enforcement agencies maintain that sustained monitoring and regular crackdowns are essential to curb the flow of contraband liquor and uphold the law in Bihar.
