ShivajiJayanti – Leaders PayTribute to Maratha Icon
ShivajiJayanti – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the occasion of his birth anniversary, recalling the Maratha ruler’s enduring impact on India’s history and governance traditions.

Prime Minister Highlights Shivaji’s Enduring Ideals
Marking Shivaji Jayanti, the Prime Minister described the 17th-century leader as a far-sighted ruler, a skilled administrator, and a determined advocate of self-rule. He noted that Shivaji Maharaj’s courage continues to motivate citizens, while his model of governance remains relevant for public life even today.
In a message shared on social media platform X, Modi said the nation bows in respect to the founder of Swarajya. He added that Shivaji’s sense of justice and emphasis on dignity still serve as guiding principles for society. According to the Prime Minister, the Maratha king’s life reflects a rare blend of bravery and administrative clarity.
Commitment to Welfare and Protection
The Prime Minister underlined that Shivaji Maharaj consistently placed the well-being of his people above all else. He said the ruler devoted himself to safeguarding his subjects, ensuring fairness in administration, and building a system rooted in accountability.
Modi remarked that this people-centric approach is what keeps Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy alive across generations. By prioritizing public welfare and security, he laid a foundation that continues to resonate in discussions about leadership and governance in modern India.
Amit Shah Unveils Statue in Gandhinagar
Separately, Union Home Minister Amit Shah participated in the unveiling of an equestrian statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The statue, installed by Maharashtra Samaj Gandhinagar, stands nearly 21 feet tall and depicts the Maratha ruler mounted on horseback.
The ceremony was attended by Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and several other dignitaries. Addressing the gathering, Shah said the installation of the statue is a moment of pride for the people of Gandhinagar. He described Shivaji Maharaj as the founder of Hindavi Swaraj and praised his contribution to the idea of self-governance.
Shah expressed confidence that the monument would serve as a lasting source of inspiration, particularly for young people. According to him, Shivaji’s leadership qualities and achievements remain relevant and will continue to shape national consciousness for generations.
Remembering a Historic Struggle
Speaking at the event, Shah also reflected on the historical context in which Shivaji Maharaj rose to prominence. He said that during a period when much of the Indian subcontinent was under Mughal authority, Shivaji emerged as a powerful force advocating independence and regional self-rule.
Shah noted that at a time when many believed imperial dominance was unshakeable, Shivaji Maharaj demonstrated that determined leadership and public support could alter the course of history. His efforts, Shah said, played a significant role in challenging prevailing power structures and strengthening the idea of Swarajya.
A Legacy That Continues to Inspire
Both leaders emphasized that Shivaji Maharaj’s contributions extend beyond military achievements. His administrative reforms, emphasis on justice, and commitment to protecting communities have earned him a lasting place in India’s historical narrative.
As the country observes Shivaji Jayanti, tributes from political leaders and community organizations reflect the continued respect for a ruler whose vision of governance and self-respect remains influential centuries later.
