Sports – CRPF Hosts Shaheed Mushtaq Ahmed Memorial Volleyball Tournament in Ramban

Sports – The Central Reserve Police Force’s 84 Battalion concluded the Shaheed Mushtaq Ahmed Memorial Volleyball Tournament 2026 at Chanderkote after more than a week of spirited competition. The event, which began on February 5, brought together eight teams representing different parts of Ramban district. Chenab Warriors Chanderkote claimed the championship title following a commanding performance in the final.

Tournament Brings District Teams Together

Organised under the Jammu Sector of the Central Reserve Police Force, the tournament was held at the Tactical Headquarters of 84 Bn CRPF in Chanderkote. Over the course of several days, teams competed in league and knockout matches that drew steady support from local residents and youth groups.

The initiative was designed not only as a sporting contest but also as a tribute to the late Mushtaq Ahmed, whose sacrifice in the line of duty continues to be remembered in the region. Officials said the annual memorial event aims to strengthen bonds between security forces and the community while promoting constructive activities among young people.

Enthusiastic Crowd at the Final Match

The championship match was played on February 13 in an atmosphere marked by high energy and disciplined sportsmanship. Chenab Warriors Chanderkote faced Friends Volleyball Club Chanderkote in what many spectators described as a competitive yet respectful encounter.

Chenab Warriors dominated the contest from the outset, securing victory in straight sets with scores of 25-19, 25-20, and 25-20. The decisive win earned them the tournament trophy, while Friends Volleyball Club finished as runners-up after an impressive campaign throughout the event.

A large gathering of sports enthusiasts, families, and local youth attended the final, filling the venue with applause and encouragement for both sides.

Senior Officials Attend Closing Ceremony

The closing ceremony was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Ramban Arun Gupta as the chief guest. He was joined by Commandant N. Ranbir Singh of 84 Bn CRPF, Second-in-Command Vikram Singh, Second-in-Command Arvind Kumar Dixit, Assistant Commandants Roop Ram Meena and Rupesh Kumar, along with personnel and families of the battalion.

Family members of the late Mushtaq Ahmed were also present, including his wife Rubina Begum, who was honoured during the ceremony. A shawl and commemorative memento were presented to her as a mark of respect.

During the programme, speakers paid homage to Mushtaq Ahmed, recalling his dedication and service to the nation. The tribute underscored the significance of remembering those who have laid down their lives in the line of duty.

Focus on Youth Development Through Sports

Addressing the gathering, Commandant Ranbir Singh highlighted the role of the CRPF in community outreach alongside its operational responsibilities. He emphasised that sports provide young people with a constructive platform for channelising their energy and developing discipline, teamwork, and resilience.

He assured participants and local residents that similar events would continue in the future to encourage healthy competition and maintain positive engagement with the community.

SSP Arun Gupta also commended the 84 Battalion for organising the memorial tournament. He noted that such initiatives contribute to social harmony and offer youth an opportunity to focus on fitness and personal growth. He further assured support to the family of the martyr.

Awards and Cultural Performances Mark Conclusion

The event concluded with the distribution of trophies, medals, certificates, volleyballs, and nets to the winning and runner-up teams. Players were recognised for their efforts and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, a cultural programme was presented during the closing function, showcasing local talent and providing entertainment for attendees.

Officials described the tournament as a meaningful blend of remembrance and recreation, reinforcing the message that sports can play a significant role in building stronger community ties while honouring the legacy of those who served the nation.
