Healthcare – Bihar MLA Flags Poor Condition of Alinagar Hospital

Healthcare – A ruling party legislator from Bihar has openly questioned the condition of a government hospital in her own constituency, expressing dissatisfaction with the official response provided by the state’s health department.

Bihar mla raises alinagar hospital concerns

MLA Disputes Minister’s Written Reply

During Question Hour in the Bihar Assembly, Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Maithili Thakur from Alinagar challenged a written statement submitted by State Health Minister Mangal Pandey regarding the status of a government healthcare facility in her area.

Thakur said the minister’s reply did not accurately reflect the ground reality. According to the written response, the hospital building was described as structurally stable and in need of minor repairs rather than major reconstruction.

However, the MLA maintained that her personal inspection told a different story. She informed the House that she had visited the hospital herself and found its condition to be far worse than what was recorded in official documents.

“I am not fully satisfied with the explanation given. The building has been described as not dilapidated and only requiring repairs. I request that a proper inspection be arranged, as my visit revealed that the structure is in extremely poor condition,” she stated.

Demand for Doctors and Better Facilities

Beyond raising concerns about infrastructure, Thakur also pointed to a serious shortage of medical staff at the facility. She said the hospital is currently functioning out of a small room and lacks qualified doctors.

According to her, two MBBS doctors were earlier posted at the hospital, but those positions are now vacant. She urged the health department to appoint at least two MBBS doctors without delay so that residents can access basic medical services locally.

The absence of full-time doctors, she argued, has limited the hospital’s ability to serve patients effectively. With primary healthcare services already under strain in many rural parts of the state, staffing gaps further complicate access to timely treatment.

Hospital Serves Thousands Across Panchayats

Thakur emphasized the strategic importance of the hospital for the surrounding population. She said the facility caters to residents from five to seven panchayats, with an estimated 40,000 to 50,000 people depending on it for medical care.

Situated centrally within the Alinagar Assembly constituency, the hospital provides convenient access to people living in both Ghanshyampur and Alinagar blocks. Given its location and reach, she said strengthening the hospital would significantly improve healthcare delivery in the region.

She urged the health minister to pay special attention to the development and upgrading of the facility so that it can adequately meet the needs of the local population.

Focus on Rural Healthcare Accountability

The issue highlights ongoing challenges related to rural health infrastructure and staffing in Bihar. While official records may indicate compliance with basic standards, field-level realities can sometimes differ, prompting elected representatives to seek closer scrutiny.

By raising the matter publicly in the Assembly, Thakur called for greater accountability and transparency in reporting the condition of government institutions. Her intervention underscores the importance of regular inspections and accurate documentation in ensuring that public health facilities function as intended.
