“Glad to meet Amb Sanjiv Ranjan, Secretary General of the Indian Ocean Rim Association, today in Delhi,” Jaishankar wrote on X, providing specifics of the exchange. Priority areas for collaboration with the industries, governments, and academic institutions of @IORAofficial member nations were discussed.

The main topics of discussion were strengthening alliances that promote equitable and sustainable development in the Indian Ocean area and furthering cooperative initiatives within the IORA framework. The gathering coincides with a renewed focus on regional collaboration to tackle common security, economic, and developmental issues.

In order to foster regional cooperation and sustainable development, IORA is a crucial multilateral forum that unites nations that border the Indian Ocean. Facilitating commerce and investment, marine safety and security, fisheries management, catastrophe risk reduction, tourism, and academic interactions are just a few of the topics on its agenda. India has always pushed for a more results-driven and action-oriented approach and has been an active member of the organization.

Jaishankar emphasized at the meeting how crucial it is for IORA member states to work together more closely in order to maximize the region’s economic potential while maintaining stability and resilience. He emphasized how companies drive trade and investment connections and how academic and research institutions support innovation, capacity development, and evidence-based policymaking.

India’s larger vision for the Indian Ocean, which places a strong emphasis on collaboration, connectivity, and adherence to international law, was also represented in the exchange. By supporting programs that improve marine domain knowledge, infrastructure development, and interpersonal relationships, New Delhi has established itself as a net security supplier and development partner in the area.

The External Affairs Minister was given an update on the association’s current initiatives and future goals by Ambassador Sanjiv Ranjan, who recently assumed the role of IORA Secretary General. It is believed that both parties have agreed on the need of converting discussions into concrete results that assist member nations and reaffirm IORA’s importance in a geopolitical and economic landscape that is changing quickly.

The gathering demonstrates India’s ongoing commitment to multilateral involvement in the Indian Ocean and its intention to collaborate closely with IORA in order to achieve common regional goals via cooperative efforts that are inclusive and realistic.
