Delhi Demolition Drive: Clashes Over Bulldozer Activity Near Faiz-e-Elahi Masjid Injure Five Cops

Delhi Demolition Drive: At least five police officers were hurt after a fight broke out between residents and officers during the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) anti-encroachment campaign at Ramlila Maidan in the National Capital. Following directives from the Delhi High Court, city authorities were demolishing a section close to the Faiz-e-Elahi Masjid at Turkman Gate when the event happened.

According to Madhur Verma, Joint Commissioner of Police, Central Range, several criminals tried to cause trouble by throwing stones during the demolition operation. However, he said that in order to restore normality, the situation is brought under control with a limited and calibrated use of force.

According to DCP Nidhin Valsan, the demolition started early on Wednesday at approximately one in the morning and is still going on. He said that MCD demolished the encroached property in accordance with directives from the Delhi High Court.

He said that during the nighttime demolition effort, police officers were attacked with stones. “We pushed back with very little force. Other than that, everything went really well. Between four and five cops were slightly hurt. We will identify the criminals and pursue legal action as soon as we have the CCTV, ground, and body camera video,” Valsan said.Five police officers were slightly hurt when around 25 to 30 individuals hurled stones at police units. To keep everything under control, we had to employ tear gas. Both the dinner hall and the pharmacy were destroyed. Senior police officer Nidhin Valsan told the news agency PTI that the campaign was carried out at night so that people wouldn’t encounter any difficulties.

According to Vivek Agarwal, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the City S.P. Zone (CSPZ), the action was carried out in accordance with the court’s directive. He said that 4,000 square meters were demolished using 32 JCBs. By tomorrow, the demolition debris will be removed. “No one was hurt during the stone pelting, police worked very well and controlled the situation,” he said.
