Bangladesh : According to Bangladesh Police, they don’t have “specific information” regarding the location of the main suspect in the murder of well-known youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi.

The comments were made the day after Hadi’s Inqilab Mancha party demanded “visible progress” in the arrest of those who killed him, giving the interim government a 24-hour ultimatum on Saturday.

Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khandaker Rafiqul Islam stated that law enforcement agencies are actively searching for Faisal Karim Masud, the gunman in the shooting, during an emergency press conference held at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday, according to the UNB news agency.

“We don’t know exactly where Faisal was last seen. He said that there was no solid evidence that the suspect had fled the country and that “our forces and intelligence agencies are working to obtain it.”

Criminals often disseminate rumors about their location, the IGP said.

Islam said that there is yet no hard proof connecting any political party to the killing. “However, efforts are underway to gather accurate data,” he said.

Shafiqul Islam, the head of the Detective Branch (DB), said that there did not seem to be any personal reason for the murder, suggesting that it was first driven by politics.

But he said, “We are examining all possible angles.”

Hadi was a candidate in the general elections set on February 12 and was a key figure in the student-led demonstrations that overthrew the Awami League government, headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, last year.

On December 12, masked assailants shot the 32-year-old Inqilab Mancha spokesman in the head during an election campaign in the Bijoynagar neighborhood of downtown Dhaka.

He passed away on Thursday while receiving medical care in Singapore.

His passing sparked assaults and vandalism across Bangladesh, including Thursday’s stone-hurling at the home of the Assistant Indian High Commissioner in Chattogram.
