Wage Revision Implemented Across Key Districts

According to official details released by the district administration, the revised wages have been increased by nearly 21 percent. For unskilled workers in Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad, monthly pay has been raised from Rs 11,313 to Rs 13,690. Semi-skilled workers will now receive Rs 15,059 instead of Rs 12,445, while skilled workers’ wages have gone up from Rs 13,940 to Rs 16,868. These revised rates have been made effective from April 1.

The administration also confirmed revised wage structures for other regions. In districts governed by municipal corporations, unskilled workers will now earn Rs 13,006 per month, semi-skilled workers Rs 14,306, and skilled workers Rs 16,025. In districts without municipal corporations, the updated wages stand at Rs 12,356, Rs 13,591, and Rs 15,224 for unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled workers, respectively.

Protests Continue Despite Announcement

Despite the government’s move, workers at the Hosiery Complex in Noida Phase 2 continued their sit-in protest on Tuesday. The demonstration follows unrest that turned tense a day earlier, prompting the deployment of police personnel to maintain order.

Workers have been demanding a more substantial increase in wages, arguing that the revised rates still fall short of their expectations given rising living costs. The ongoing protest highlights the gap between labour demands and administrative decisions, even after the recent revision.

Administration Rejects Misinformation

The district administration has also addressed rumours circulating on social media claiming that minimum wages in Uttar Pradesh had been fixed at Rs 20,000 per month. Officials have dismissed these claims as false and misleading, urging the public to rely only on verified government communications.

Authorities emphasized that no such uniform wage level has been implemented and warned against the spread of unverified information that could create confusion among workers and employers.

National Wage Framework Under Consideration

In its official statement, the administration noted that the central government is working on establishing a national minimum floor wage under new labour codes. This framework aims to create a baseline wage structure applicable across all states, ensuring fair compensation for workers nationwide.

The Uttar Pradesh government is also conducting consultations with stakeholders, including labour unions and employer groups. Officials stated that feedback received during these discussions is being carefully reviewed to arrive at a balanced and practical decision.

Economic Pressures Influence Decision

The government highlighted that industries are currently facing multiple challenges, including rising raw material costs and a decline in exports. These factors have impacted the financial capacity of businesses, making wage-related decisions more complex.

At the same time, officials acknowledged that workers’ concerns are valid and deserve attention. The administration stressed the importance of maintaining a balanced approach that protects workers’ interests while ensuring that industries remain viable.

Government Appeals for Compliance and Trust

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has urged citizens to rely on official information sources and avoid misinformation. He also called on employers to strictly follow labour regulations, including timely payment of wages, overtime compensation, weekly holidays, and bonuses.

Special emphasis was placed on ensuring workplace safety and dignity, particularly for women workers. The government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding labour rights while fostering a stable industrial environment.

The situation remains dynamic, with ongoing protests indicating that discussions between workers, employers, and authorities may continue in the coming days.
