SafetyUpdate – Lucknow Auto Driver Arrested After Alleged Assault Case and Police Action

SafetyUpdate – Two students travelling through Lucknow to appear for a competitive examination in Raebareli were allegedly targeted by an auto-rickshaw driver who is now in police custody after being injured during an encounter with law enforcement officials, authorities said on Tuesday.

Incident Reported During Examination Journey

According to police officials, the incident occurred in the Para area of Lucknow on Monday. The two young women had arrived at Charbagh railway station and hired an auto-rickshaw to reach the roadways bus terminal for onward travel to their examination centre in Raebareli.

Investigators stated that the driver allegedly failed to take the passengers to their requested destination. Instead, he reportedly diverted the vehicle toward a secluded location on the outskirts of the Para locality. Authorities said the students were allegedly harassed and physically assaulted after being taken to the isolated spot.

Students Raised Alarm, Suspect Escaped

Police said the victims managed to raise an alarm during the incident, drawing attention to the situation. Following the commotion, the accused allegedly fled the area before authorities arrived.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Kamlesh Dixit said officers responded quickly after receiving information about the incident. A formal complaint was registered, and police ensured that the students were safely assisted so they could continue their journey and attend the examination.

Investigation Led to Identification of Accused

After the complaint was filed, multiple police teams were assigned to investigate the case. Officers reviewed surveillance camera footage from nearby locations and collected technical evidence to establish the suspect’s identity and trace his movements.

During the investigation, police identified the accused as Hasim, originally from Hardoi district. Officials said he had been residing in rented accommodation within the Para police station jurisdiction and was working as an auto-rickshaw driver in the city.

Arrest Operation Near Munnu Khera Pulia

Law enforcement teams later tracked the suspect to the Munnu Khera Pulia area. According to police, an attempt was made to detain him, but he allegedly tried to evade arrest.

Officials claimed that during the operation, the accused opened fire on the police team. In response, officers carried out retaliatory action. During the exchange, the suspect sustained a gunshot injury to his leg.

Authorities confirmed that he was immediately taken into custody and shifted to a hospital for medical treatment. His condition is reported to be stable, and he remains under police supervision.

Previous Criminal Record Comes Under Scrutiny

Police officials also disclosed that the accused has a criminal history. According to available records, he had previously been arrested in 2024 in connection with a rape case.

Investigators are now examining all aspects of the latest allegations while continuing legal proceedings under relevant sections of the law. Authorities stated that further evidence is being collected and that the investigation remains active.

Senior police officials reiterated their commitment to ensuring a thorough inquiry and said all necessary legal action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
