Religious Conversion Case – A major police operation in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district has resulted in the arrest of 16 individuals in connection with different criminal cases, including a suspected forced religious conversion matter that has drawn significant attention from authorities.
Two Held in Alleged Conversion and Blackmail Plot
According to district police officials, two suspects were taken into custody from the Kajiwada locality under the Kotwali police station limits. Investigators allege that the accused were involved in a planned effort to manipulate a young man through an emotional relationship, with the intention of exerting pressure on him and later seeking financial benefits through blackmail.
Police stated that the case is being treated seriously due to allegations that the victim was allegedly targeted as part of a broader scheme involving coercion and an attempt to influence his religious beliefs. Authorities said evidence gathered so far indicates that the operation was carefully organized rather than being an isolated incident.
District-Wide Action Against Criminal Activities
Speaking to reporters, Shamli Superintendent of Police NP Singh said law enforcement teams carried out extensive action across the district, leading to a total of 16 arrests linked to various criminal investigations.
The district-wide crackdown covered several categories of offences. Apart from the two arrests connected to the religious conversion case, police also detained one individual in a narcotics-related matter. Two people were arrested in separate theft cases, while another accused was taken into custody in connection with an attempted murder investigation.
Arrests Linked to Other Ongoing Cases
Officials further confirmed that one arrest was made in a case involving the circulation of photographs that had spread widely on social media platforms. In addition, nine individuals wanted in warrant-related matters were apprehended during the operation.
Police said these actions reflect an ongoing effort to strengthen law enforcement and ensure that pending cases are addressed promptly. Authorities noted that special teams have been working to identify individuals involved in criminal activities and bring them before the courts.
Police Stress Zero Tolerance for Illegal Practices
Senior officers reiterated that strict legal action would continue against anyone found engaging in unlawful activities, including blackmail, coercion, fraud, or attempts to exploit vulnerable individuals for personal gain.
The department also emphasized its commitment to maintaining public safety and preserving communal harmony. Officials said investigations are being conducted in accordance with legal procedures and that all evidence is being examined thoroughly.
