HealthUpdate – Prateek Yadav Dies Following Prolonged Cardiac and Respiratory Complications
HealthUpdate – Prateek Yadav, the younger son of late Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, passed away in Lucknow on Wednesday after suffering severe health complications linked to heart and respiratory ailments. He was 38.

According to medical sources, Prateek Yadav died due to a cardiorespiratory collapse triggered by massive pulmonary thromboembolism, a serious condition caused by blood clots blocking arteries in the lungs. Over the past year, he had reportedly been undergoing regular treatment and medical supervision at private hospitals in Lucknow because of multiple health concerns.
Repeated Hospital Admissions Over the Past Year
Doctors familiar with his treatment said Yadav had been admitted to hospitals several times during the last 12 months. His medical condition reportedly included pulmonary embolism, hypertension, anxiety-related complications and recurring heart problems, which required continuous monitoring and repeated short-duration hospital stays.
Family sources and hospital officials stated that his condition had worsened in recent weeks, leading to emergency treatment on multiple occasions. Medical experts had been closely observing his cardiovascular and respiratory health due to the increasing frequency of complications.
Cardiac Arrest Episodes Raised Serious Concerns
Reports indicate that Prateek Yadav suffered two cardiac arrest episodes within a span of nearly two weeks. The first incident reportedly took place on April 30, when he experienced severe breathing difficulties and respiratory distress. He was immediately taken for medical care after his condition became critical.
During treatment, doctors managed to stabilise him following what was described as a mild cardiac arrest. Further examinations reportedly identified complications related to deep vein thrombosis, a condition involving blood clots forming in deep veins, which can become life-threatening if not treated in time.
Surgery Conducted Earlier This Month
On May 5, Yadav underwent surgery for deep vein thrombosis at a private hospital in Lucknow. Medical professionals involved in his care reportedly carried out the procedure successfully, and he was discharged the next day after showing signs of temporary improvement.
Despite the surgery and continued treatment, his health remained fragile. Doctors had advised regular observation and follow-up care because of the risk posed by recurring cardiovascular complications linked to pulmonary embolism.
Final Heart Attack Proved Fatal
Officials said Prateek Yadav suffered another heart attack on May 13. He was rushed to the civil hospital in critical condition, but doctors later confirmed that he had stopped breathing before reaching the medical facility.
His death has drawn condolences from political leaders, party workers and supporters associated with the Samajwadi Party. While Prateek Yadav largely stayed away from active politics, he remained known because of his connection to one of Uttar Pradesh’s most influential political families.
The passing of the 38-year-old has once again highlighted the serious risks associated with pulmonary embolism and recurring cardiac conditions, especially when combined with hypertension and respiratory complications. Medical experts say such conditions often require long-term treatment, lifestyle management and continuous monitoring to reduce life-threatening risks
