GreenMobility – Uttar Pradesh Expands Clean Transport Network Around Jewar Airport

GreenMobility – Uttar Pradesh has taken another major step toward strengthening eco-friendly public transportation with the launch of a new fleet of electric and hydrogen-powered buses in the Gautam Buddha Nagar region. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated 45 electric buses and three hydrogen-fuel buses that will serve passengers across Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area, improving connectivity to the upcoming Jewar Airport.

New Bus Services to Improve Regional Connectivity

The Chief Minister also virtually inaugurated the Noida Electric Bus Depot from Lucknow. The newly introduced buses are expected to provide better transportation options for commuters travelling within key urban and industrial zones. The hydrogen-powered buses will primarily operate in the YEIDA region, which is emerging as an important development corridor in western Uttar Pradesh.

During the launch event, Yogi Adityanath said the initiative reflects the broader vision of environmentally responsible transportation promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that the state government is working toward expanding green mobility solutions and reducing dependence on conventional fuel-powered public transport across cities and rural areas.

Plans for a Larger Electric Bus Fleet

Officials indicated that the deployment of electric buses will continue in phases. According to the current roadmap, around 110 electric buses are expected to be operational by mid-June. The fleet size could eventually increase to nearly 500 buses, depending on commuter demand and operational requirements.

The government believes that enhanced public transport services will support the growing economic activity in Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Authority region. These areas have witnessed rapid expansion in sectors such as information technology, electronics manufacturing, semiconductor development, startup ecosystems, and data centre infrastructure.

Focus on Infrastructure Development

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the infrastructure changes witnessed in Uttar Pradesh over recent years. He stated that significant improvements in roads, transportation networks, and public services have contributed to the state’s transformation.

According to him, conditions before 2017 were marked by inadequate infrastructure and limited investment opportunities. He said the state has since developed a stronger foundation for economic growth through expanded road networks, better connectivity, and large-scale infrastructure projects.

Road and Air Connectivity Witness Growth

The Chief Minister said Uttar Pradesh now has an extensive road network stretching nearly four lakh kilometres, including expressways and highways that connect major districts and neighbouring states. He added that the state’s expressway infrastructure has earned national recognition and strengthened regional mobility.

Speaking about aviation infrastructure, he pointed to recent developments in airport expansion. He noted that Prayagraj Airport was completed within a short time frame and said the upcoming Jewar Airport is set to become the country’s largest airport facility.

Cleaner Public Transport Gains Momentum

Yogi Adityanath also highlighted the growth of urban transport systems across the state. Metro rail services are currently operational in seven Uttar Pradesh cities, while more than 700 electric buses are already serving commuters in 17 municipal corporations.

He further stated that electric buses are now being manufactured within Uttar Pradesh through newly established production facilities, reducing dependence on external suppliers and supporting local industrial growth.

Hydrogen Buses Introduced for Environmental Benefits

The three hydrogen-fuel buses introduced in the YEIDA region have been provided by NTPC and will operate near the Jewar Airport zone. The Chief Minister said these vehicles represent an important step toward cleaner transportation and lower emissions.

He emphasized that the adoption of hydrogen and electric mobility solutions can help reduce air pollution levels while contributing to a healthier environment for residents, particularly children, senior citizens, and individuals vulnerable to poor air quality.
