Crime – Husband Arrested After Wife Killed Following Domestic Dispute in Moradabad

Crime –  A disturbing case from Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad district has drawn attention after a woman was allegedly killed by her husband following a domestic argument. The incident occurred in the Double Phatak locality, which falls under the Katghar police station limits. Authorities say the accused remained at the scene for several hours after the crime before eventually contacting the police with misleading information.

Dispute Reportedly Triggered by Lifestyle Differences

According to preliminary findings, the accused, Shobhit Gupta, who operates a scrap business, had ongoing disagreements with his wife, Poonam Gupta, over her daily visits to a gym. Poonam was described as someone who prioritized her health and maintained a regular fitness routine. However, her husband reportedly objected to this habit, leading to frequent arguments between the couple.

On Thursday morning, tensions escalated when Poonam returned home from the gym. A verbal altercation broke out, which soon turned violent. Investigators say Shobhit used an iron rod, typically employed to open shop shutters, and struck Poonam on the head. She died at the scene due to the impact.

Accused Stayed Beside Body for Hours

What has further shocked investigators is the behavior of the accused following the incident. Instead of fleeing, Shobhit remained seated next to his wife’s body for nearly seven hours. During this time, he reportedly attempted to maintain normalcy within the household.

When the couple’s young daughter returned from school later in the day, he directed her to another room without revealing what had happened. Officials believe this was done to prevent immediate discovery of the crime.

Misleading Call to Police Raises Suspicion

Later in the evening, the accused himself contacted emergency services. However, instead of reporting a death, he allegedly informed the police that his wife had been injured. This statement prompted a response from the Dial 112 team.

Upon reaching the residence, officers found Poonam lying motionless on a bed, which immediately raised doubts about the version of events provided. A closer examination of the scene and the nature of the injuries led police to suspect foul play.

Confession After Interrogation

Following questioning, Shobhit Gupta reportedly admitted to the crime. Police took him into custody, and a formal case has been registered. The investigation is ongoing to determine whether additional charges may apply based on further evidence.

Family Alleges History of Harassment

Meanwhile, the victim’s family has presented a different perspective, suggesting that the incident may not be limited to a disagreement over gym visits. Poonam’s brother and other relatives have accused her in-laws of subjecting her to ongoing harassment.

They also claimed there had been a prior attempt on her life, alleging that she was once forced to consume powdered glass, which caused injuries inside her mouth. The family believes more individuals from the husband’s side may have been involved and has urged authorities to expand the investigation.

Law enforcement officials have stated that all angles are being examined, including the allegations made by the victim’s family. Statements from neighbors and relatives are being recorded, and forensic evidence is being reviewed to establish a complete timeline of events.
