Crime – A shocking case from Uttar Pradesh has come to light where a former police constable is accused of killing an elderly beggar in an attempt to stage his own death and escape multiple pending criminal charges.

A disturbing incident in Hathras has revealed an alleged plan by a dismissed police constable to mislead authorities by faking his own death. According to officials, the accused, Ramveer Singh, who had been removed from service over a decade ago due to his criminal background, was trying to avoid arrest in several ongoing cases.

Alleged plan to escape justice

Police investigations suggest that Singh, who had been absconding since his dismissal in 2013, devised a plan to assume a new identity. To execute this, he reportedly targeted a vulnerable individual with no known family or social connections. Authorities believe Singh chose an elderly beggar who frequently stayed at the Hathras railway platform.

On the night of March 12, when the platform was largely deserted, Singh allegedly poured kerosene on the sleeping man and set him on fire. To make it appear as though he himself had died, he left behind personal items, including a partially burnt Aadhaar card and his mobile phone, near the body.

Injuries raise suspicion

While attempting to carry out the crime, Singh himself suffered serious burn injuries. Initially, he sought treatment quietly from nearby medical stores to avoid attention. However, as his condition deteriorated, he admitted himself to Hathras District Hospital. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to the Saifai Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Etawah on March 14.

Meanwhile, authorities initially believed that the charred body recovered from the railway platform belonged to Singh. The presence of his identification documents near the body reinforced this assumption, and preliminary proceedings were conducted under that belief.

Missing beggar leads to breakthrough

The case took a turn when local police grew suspicious about the sudden disappearance of a beggar who was known to frequent the railway platform regularly. Residents informed officials that the man rarely left the area, raising doubts about the identity of the deceased.

Acting on this suspicion, police extended their inquiry to Singh’s native village in Mainpuri. Around the same time, new information emerged regarding a burn victim named Ramveer Singh receiving treatment at the district hospital and later being shifted to Saifai.

This crucial lead helped investigators confirm that Singh was alive, while the deceased was identified as the missing beggar. The discovery exposed the alleged attempt to stage a false death.

Arrest and confession

Following this revelation, police kept Singh under observation during his treatment. After he was discharged nearly a month later, he was taken into custody and brought back to Hathras for questioning.

During interrogation, Singh reportedly admitted to the crime. Officials stated that his intention was to fake his death and evade legal consequences. Had the plan succeeded, he allegedly intended to relocate and live under a new identity.

Criminal background and pending cases

Authorities revealed that Singh has an extensive criminal record, with at least 13 cases registered against him between 2012 and 2013 in multiple districts, including Firozabad, Moradabad, Aligarh, Mainpuri, Badaun, and Kanpur Dehat.

Among these cases are serious charges such as murder and attempted murder. He was also booked under the Gangster Act in 2013. His dismissal from the police force followed these allegations, after which he reportedly remained on the run.

Family details and current status

Police officials confirmed that Singh’s family resides in Mainpuri. He has five daughters who live with their mother, while his only son has passed away. Authorities have completed the last rites of the unidentified victim and are continuing legal proceedings against Singh.

The case highlights serious concerns about misuse of identity and the lengths to which individuals may go to evade law enforcement.
