Polavaram – Independent Quality Review Confirms ECRF Dam Materials Meet Standards**
Polavaram –The independent quality inspection of construction materials used in the Earth-cum-Rock Fill (ECRF) Dam at the Polavaram Project entered its second day on Wednesday, with experts from the Central Soil and Materials Research Station (CSMRS) carrying out extensive field assessments. The inspection programme is scheduled to continue on Thursday as part of the project’s routine quality verification process.

Expert Team Conducts Detailed Material Evaluation
The CSMRS delegation includes geotechnical engineering and construction materials specialists Harendra Prakash, Avinash Anand Srivastava, Gaurav Pandya, and Vijay Pratap Singh. Their visit focuses on independently assessing the quality of materials being used in one of the most significant structural components of the Polavaram Project.
The specialists have been examining rock, soil, and sand through a series of on-site tests designed to verify whether the materials comply with the technical specifications required for the construction of the ECRF dam.
Inspection Covers Multiple Construction Sections
During the first phase of the inspection, the team assessed construction materials along the stretch between chainages 400 metres and 1,100 metres. On the second day, the experts expanded the review to include the sections between 0 and 400 metres as well as the 1,100 to 1,400 metre stretch.
The inspection programme has been structured to cover different portions of the dam, allowing engineers to evaluate material quality across a wider construction area. The ongoing exercise is intended to ensure consistency in the standards maintained throughout the project.
Test Results Meet Prescribed Technical Standards
According to the findings recorded during the inspections, the rock, soil, and sand currently being used in the ECRF dam construction satisfy the prescribed quality requirements. The field tests found that the various categories of construction materials conform to the standards specified for the project.
Officials indicated that similar evaluations will continue on Thursday, completing the current phase of the quality assessment. The inspections form part of a systematic process aimed at verifying the suitability of materials before they become part of the permanent structure.
### Independent Monitoring Supports Project Safety
The ongoing review by the Central Soil and Materials Research Station is part of the regular independent quality assurance mechanism followed for the Polavaram Project. Such assessments are carried out periodically to ensure that construction materials consistently meet established engineering and safety benchmarks.
Independent testing by specialised institutions plays an important role in maintaining construction quality, particularly in large infrastructure projects where material performance is critical to long-term structural stability. The continued inspections are intended to strengthen confidence that the ECRF dam is being built with materials that comply with the required technical and safety standards.
