Infrastructure – MCD Intensifies Monsoon Preparedness, Approves Major Parking and School Projects
Infrastructure – The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has stepped up preparations ahead of the monsoon season while also approving key infrastructure and education projects during its latest House meeting held on Thursday.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi devoted much of its House meeting to reviewing the city’s preparedness for the approaching monsoon. Members discussed measures aimed at reducing waterlogging, improving sanitation, and strengthening civic services before heavy rainfall begins. Alongside monsoon-related issues, the civic body also approved major development proposals, including new underground parking facilities and an upgrade of a government primary school.
Opposition Seeks Details on Drain Maintenance
Leader of Opposition Ankush Narang questioned the civic administration over the total number of drains under the corporation’s jurisdiction and sought details of the desilting work completed so far. He also raised concerns about sanitation standards, maintenance of drainage systems, and the readiness of civic infrastructure to handle seasonal rainfall. Several members participated in the discussion, focusing on preventing water accumulation and ensuring smoother public services during the monsoon months.
Mayor Highlights Priority Measures Before Monsoon
Mayor Pravesh Wahi said the MCD has intensified its efforts to tackle waterlogging across the capital. According to him, drain desilting, strengthening of drainage infrastructure, and continuous monitoring of vulnerable locations are being carried out as priority tasks. The civic body aims to complete critical work before the onset of heavy rains to minimize inconvenience for residents.
The Mayor also stated that modern equipment and advanced technology are being deployed to improve the efficiency of maintenance operations. He added that officials responsible for areas affected by avoidable waterlogging would be held accountable, and any negligence in carrying out assigned duties would invite strict action.
Revised Budget Approved for Underground Parking Facilities
In another significant decision, the House approved a revised budget exceeding Rs 131 crore for the construction of underground multi-level parking facilities in New Friends Colony, Jangpura, and Kalkaji. The project is expected to improve parking availability and ease traffic congestion in these densely populated localities. The approval is intended to remove long-pending obstacles that have affected commuters and local residents in these areas.
Proposal Cleared for School Infrastructure Expansion
The civic body also sanctioned a proposal to improve infrastructure at a primary girls’ school in Sirsapur. The approved plan includes the construction of seven new classrooms, a multipurpose hall, and a toilet block after the removal of existing portable cabin structures in the Civil Lines Zone.
The project has been approved at an estimated cost of Rs 4.06 crore and has been prepared based on detailed architectural plans. The expansion is expected to provide improved learning facilities and better amenities for students while strengthening educational infrastructure in the area.
With monsoon preparedness receiving immediate attention and infrastructure projects moving forward simultaneously, the decisions taken during the House meeting reflect the civic body’s focus on improving essential public services and urban facilities across Delhi.
