Cricket Squad Update – Australia Introduces New Faces for Pakistan and Bangladesh Tour

Cricket Squad Update –  Australia has unveiled a refreshed squad for its upcoming limited-overs tour of Pakistan and Bangladesh, with several senior fast bowlers being rested as selectors shift focus toward future international assignments.

Australia pakistan bangladesh tour squad update

The Australian team management has decided to leave out experienced pace trio Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood from the upcoming ODI and T20I fixtures scheduled across Pakistan and Bangladesh later this month. The decision comes as the fast bowlers continue managing workloads after recovering from injuries during the ongoing Indian Premier League season.

Young Players Earn National Call-Ups

Selectors have introduced a number of emerging players into the touring squad, highlighting Australia’s long-term planning ahead of next year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Young batter Ollie Peake, who recently captained Australia during the ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup campaign, has received his first ODI selection for the Pakistan series.

Uncapped all-rounder Liam Scott has also been included in the squad, reflecting the selectors’ intention to test new combinations during the overseas assignment. In addition, promising batter Joel Davies has secured a place in the T20I squad for the Bangladesh matches in June.

Mitchell Marsh to Lead White-Ball Side

Mitchell Marsh will captain Australia throughout the white-ball tour covering both Pakistan and Bangladesh. The experienced all-rounder continues to lead the side as preparations intensify for major ICC tournaments in the coming years.

Veteran all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has not been included in the T20I squad for Bangladesh, signaling a transition phase where younger players are being offered international opportunities.

Meanwhile, pace bowlers Riley Meredith and Billy Stanlake have returned to the national setup for the Pakistan leg of the tour after spending time away from Australia’s limited-overs squads.

IPL Playoffs Affect Squad Availability

Australia’s selectors have also adjusted the squad based on IPL commitments. Several players whose franchises are expected to participate in the IPL playoffs will miss the ODI series against Pakistan, which begins on May 30.

The IPL playoffs and final are scheduled between May 26 and May 31, creating scheduling conflicts for Australian players involved in the tournament. As a result, Travis Head, Cooper Connolly, Xavier Bartlett, and Ben Dwarshuis will join the squad later in Bangladesh once their IPL duties conclude.

Matthew Short has retained his place for the Pakistan ODIs but will not travel for the Bangladesh leg once the IPL players return to the squad.

Focus Turns Toward Test Preparations

Cricket Australia’s decision to rest Cummins, Starc, and Hazlewood is largely linked to preparations for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh in August. The pace trio is expected to focus on red-ball conditioning and workload management after recent injury setbacks.

Team management is believed to be prioritizing long-term fitness and ensuring the senior bowlers are fully prepared for Australia’s important Test commitments later in the year.

Pakistan and Bangladesh Series Schedule Confirmed

Australia’s tour will begin in Pakistan with a three-match ODI series. The opening match will take place in Rawalpindi on May 30, followed by two matches in Lahore on June 2 and June 4.

The team will then travel to Bangladesh for another three-match ODI series in Dhaka beginning June 9. The remaining ODI matches are scheduled for June 11 and June 14.

Australia and Bangladesh will also contest a three-match T20I series in Chattogram on June 17, June 19, and June 21.

The tour is expected to provide Australia with an opportunity to evaluate young talent while balancing player workloads during a packed international calendar.
