WorkplaceHarassment – Mumbai Police have taken a private firm employee into custody following allegations of sexual harassment and persistent stalking involving a female colleague. The accused, identified as Ashraf, is said to have sent inappropriate messages and disturbing content to the complainant over several days.

Complaint Filed After Repeated Harassment
According to police officials, the woman works as a tele-caller through a third-party arrangement within the same company where the accused is employed. The issue came to light after she approached authorities with a formal complaint detailing repeated harassment.
An FIR was registered on Thursday under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges related to sexual harassment, stalking, and insulting the dignity of a woman. Additional sections under the Information Technology Act, 2000, have also been invoked.
Allegations Include Explicit Messages and Calls
In her statement, the complainant alleged that the accused contacted her multiple times, sending explicit messages and images. She further stated that he used offensive language not only toward her but also about other women working in the organization.
Police officials noted that the harassment reportedly began on April 21, when the accused allegedly obtained her phone number and started making repeated calls along with sending objectionable content. The complaint also mentions that he made demands for sexual favors during these interactions.
Investigation Continues Into the Incident
Authorities confirmed that the accused has been arrested and further inquiry is underway. Investigators are examining digital evidence, including call records and message history, to establish the sequence of events and gather supporting proof.
Officials emphasized that such cases are treated with seriousness, especially when they involve workplace safety and misuse of communication platforms.
Separate Nashik Case Sees Legal Developments
In a different case from Nashik, two individuals—Safi Shaikh and Raza Memon—were taken into custody by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad in connection with allegations of harassment and forced religious conversion. A special committee has been set up to examine the matter in detail.
Meanwhile, legal proceedings related to another accused, Nida Khan, saw a development in court. A Nashik court declined to grant her interim relief while postponing the hearing on her anticipatory bail application to April 27.
Court Allows Time for Submissions
During the hearing, Khan’s legal representative requested time to submit a written response. The court accepted this request and scheduled the next hearing to allow both the complainant and the investigating authorities to present their arguments.
Advocate Milind Kurkute, representing Khan, stated that no interim protection has been granted so far. He confirmed that the court has permitted the defense to place their written submissions on record before proceeding further.
The court is expected to hear arguments from all sides on the next scheduled date before making a decision regarding bail and interim relief.
