The launch event will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Rajarathinam Sports Stadium at 5 p.m. The establishment of the task force was one of the earliest governance measures announced by the Chief Minister after taking charge of the state administration, highlighting the government’s focus on public safety and social welfare.

Dedicated Force for Vulnerable Groups

According to government officials, the newly established unit has been designed to provide a more focused response to issues affecting women and children. The task force is expected to improve coordination among various law enforcement divisions while ensuring faster action in cases requiring immediate attention.

Senior IPS officer K. Bhavaneeswari has been appointed to lead the force as its first Inspector General. Her appointment marks the beginning of a new administrative structure dedicated exclusively to addressing concerns related to the protection and welfare of women and minors.

Team Structure and Operational Setup

The Singappenn Special Task Force has been formed with a team of more than 30 personnel. The unit includes a Superintendent of Police, two Deputy Superintendents of Police, four Inspectors, and several supporting officers and staff members.

Officials said the composition of the force has been carefully planned to ensure effective monitoring, prompt intervention, and coordinated field operations across different regions of Tamil Nadu.

Distinctive Uniform Introduced

To create a separate identity for the task force, the state government has introduced a specially designed uniform for its members. Women police personnel and women Sub-Inspectors assigned to the unit will wear blue shirts combined with khaki trousers.

The uniform also includes black caps and black footwear. Authorities believe the distinct appearance will help the public easily recognize task force personnel while they are carrying out duties in various districts and communities.

Launch Rescheduled After Earlier Delay

The task force was initially expected to be launched on May 29. However, the inauguration programme was postponed shortly before the scheduled date due to administrative considerations.

With the revised launch now confirmed, officials expect the force to begin functioning immediately after the formal inauguration ceremony. Necessary preparations have already been completed to facilitate its deployment across the state.

Statewide Deployment Planned

Following the Chennai launch event, personnel from the Singappenn Special Task Force will be assigned to districts throughout Tamil Nadu. The objective is to establish a consistent and coordinated presence capable of responding to incidents involving women and children wherever they occur.

Authorities stated that, in addition to handling complaints and emergency situations, the unit will also focus on preventive measures. These efforts are expected to include surveillance activities, victim support services, public awareness programmes, and initiatives aimed at reducing risks before crimes occur.

Officials expressed confidence that the new force will strengthen existing policing mechanisms and contribute to creating a safer environment for women and children across Tamil Nadu.
