Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s Office announced that Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit West Bengal on June 20 and June 21. During the visit, he will participate in events related to Paschimbanga Divas and also attend programmes associated with the 12th International Yoga Day celebrations.

Understanding Paschimbanga Divas
Paschimbanga Divas is observed every year on June 20 as the official foundation day of West Bengal. The occasion commemorates the state’s establishment and recognizes its unique cultural heritage, historical background and constitutional formation.
The roots of the observance trace back to 1947, when the Bengal Legislative Assembly met to decide the future of Bengal under the framework of the Mountbatten Plan. Representatives from Hindu-majority regions voted in favour of partition and integration with India. Members from Muslim-majority areas supported alternative proposals, including remaining united or becoming part of what later emerged as East Pakistan, now known as Bangladesh.
The decisions taken during that period played a defining role in the creation of present-day West Bengal and continue to hold historical significance for the state and the country.
