WestBengalDay – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday conveyed his greetings to the people of West Bengal on the occasion of Paschimbanga Divas, highlighting the state’s remarkable contribution to India’s growth and national identity. He also expressed his hopes for the state’s continued progress and the well-being of its residents.

PM Highlights Bengal’s Contribution to the Nation
In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister described West Bengal as a state that has played a major role in shaping India’s cultural, intellectual, and social landscape. He noted that Bengal has left a lasting impact through achievements in literature, music, art, spirituality, science, trade, social reform, and several other fields.
According to Modi, generations of thinkers, artists, reformers, and visionaries from the state have significantly strengthened India’s national consciousness. He said the occasion serves as a reminder of Bengal’s enduring influence on the country’s development and heritage.

The Prime Minister also underlined the historical significance of June 20 in the state’s history. He stated that the date remains important because of its connection with events that ensured West Bengal remained part of India during a crucial period in the country’s past.
Modi paid tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, describing his contribution as invaluable in safeguarding the state’s place within the Indian Union. He further noted that the year 2026 marks the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Mookerjee, making the occasion even more meaningful for those remembering his legacy and public service.

Reiterating the Centre’s commitment to development, the Prime Minister said the Union Government would continue working alongside the West Bengal Government to address the aspirations of the state’s people.
