Weather Update – Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain Likely Across Parts of Tamil Nadu

Weather Update –  After a brief period of relatively pleasant conditions, temperatures have climbed again across Tamil Nadu, while weather experts predict rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in several districts over the coming days.

Tamil nadu heavy rain thunderstorm alert

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has indicated that changing atmospheric conditions could bring moderate rainfall and thunderstorm activity to parts of the state on Monday. The forecast comes as many regions continue to experience rising daytime temperatures following a short spell of cooler weather.

Atmospheric Conditions Supporting Rainfall

Meteorologists have attributed the expected weather activity to an upper-air cyclonic circulation extending from the west-central Bay of Bengal toward southern Tamil Nadu through the southwest Bay of Bengal. The weather system is positioned between approximately 3.1 km and 4.5 km above mean sea level and is expected to influence weather patterns across the state during the next few days.

As a result, scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds is likely in several interior districts.

Rain and Wind Forecast for Monday

According to the latest forecast, isolated locations in Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Namakkal, and Salem districts may receive moderate rainfall on Monday. Thunderstorms are also expected in these areas, with wind speeds potentially reaching up to 50 kmph during intense weather activity.

Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, especially during periods of strong winds and lightning.

Heavy Rain Alert Issued for Tuesday

Weather conditions are expected to intensify on Tuesday. The meteorological department has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places in districts including Namakkal, Salem, Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Kallakurichi, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Mayiladuthurai.

These districts may also experience thunderstorms and strong surface winds. Officials have urged the public to stay updated with local weather advisories and prepare for possible disruptions to transportation and outdoor activities.

Ramanathapuram May Experience Intense Weather

Ramanathapuram district is expected to witness a significant increase in rainfall activity beginning Tuesday. Forecasts suggest heavy showers combined with thunderstorms and strong winds, which could continue for a sustained period depending on the evolution of weather systems over the Bay of Bengal.

Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely as precautionary measures remain in place.

Chennai Likely to Remain Hot and Dry

In Chennai, no major rainfall is currently anticipated. The city is expected to experience partly cloudy skies throughout Monday, but temperatures are likely to stay elevated.

Weather officials estimate that the maximum temperature in the capital could reach around 39 degrees Celsius, making conditions uncomfortable during the afternoon hours.

Temperatures Rise Across Tamil Nadu

The rainfall forecast coincides with a noticeable increase in temperatures across several parts of Tamil Nadu. On Sunday, many locations recorded temperatures above seasonal averages.

Nagapattinam emerged as one of the hottest places in the state, with temperatures touching nearly 40 degrees Celsius. Madurai recorded around 39.5 degrees Celsius, while Tiruchirappalli registered close to 39 degrees Celsius.

Madurai Airport also reported temperatures approaching the 39-degree mark. Similar heat was observed in Chennai’s Meenambakkam and Nungambakkam areas, along with Cuddalore, Karur Paramathi, and Thanjavur. Hot and humid conditions were also reported from Puducherry and neighbouring Karaikal.

Possibility of Thundercloud Formation

Weather experts explained that the combination of elevated temperatures and favourable atmospheric moisture could encourage the development of thunderclouds over interior districts. This process may trigger scattered rain showers and isolated spells of heavy rainfall in the coming days.

Meteorologists will continue to monitor the evolving weather systems, as changing atmospheric conditions may influence rainfall intensity and distribution across Tamil Nadu during the week ahead.
