Weather – Cloudy Skies and Light Rain Expected Across Delhi Today
Weather – The national capital began Monday under a blanket of clouds, with the India Meteorological Department predicting overcast conditions through the day. According to officials, there is a chance of light rain, along with thunderstorms and lightning, particularly during the afternoon hours. Meanwhile, the city’s air quality continued to stay within the moderate range, offering some relief compared to more severe pollution levels.

Weather Conditions Across NCR Regions
While Delhi may see brief spells of rain and cloud activity, nearby areas are expected to experience more stable weather. Ghaziabad is likely to enjoy clear skies with no rainfall forecast for the day. Similarly, Noida is expected to remain dry with mostly clear conditions. Gurugram, on the other hand, could witness partly cloudy skies, though no significant rainfall activity is anticipated there.
Temperatures Stay Below Seasonal Average
The cooling effect from recent showers was still noticeable on Sunday, even as temperatures edged slightly higher compared to the previous day. The maximum temperature reached 29.5 degrees Celsius, which remains around two degrees below the usual average for this time of year. The minimum temperature was recorded at 15.6 degrees Celsius, also lower than normal by nearly 1.7 degrees. These conditions have contributed to relatively pleasant weather across the city.
Week Ahead Likely to Remain Cloudy
Forecasts suggest that cloudy conditions will continue to dominate Delhi’s weather pattern throughout the week. Gradually, daytime temperatures are expected to rise, potentially reaching between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius by the weekend. Nighttime temperatures are projected to stay within a comfortable range of 16 to 18 degrees Celsius.
Impact of Recent Rainfall Spells
Delhi has already experienced two phases of light rainfall this month due to western disturbances. The first spell occurred between March 15 and 16, followed by another round from March 19 to 21. These weather systems have played a role in keeping temperatures lower than usual for March. However, the India Meteorological Department indicates that temperatures will begin to climb steadily, with highs expected to touch 30 to 32 degrees Celsius on Monday and increase further in the coming days.
Rainfall Activity to Reduce After March 24
From March 24 onward, rainfall is expected to ease significantly, with only partly cloudy skies likely to persist. Daytime temperatures during this period may range between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures could settle between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius. Similar conditions are expected to continue into March 25, although a slight increase in daytime temperatures—reaching up to 33 degrees Celsius—is anticipated.
Recent Weather Extremes in the Capital
Just days earlier, on March 21, Delhi and surrounding NCR regions experienced dense fog and extensive cloud cover following heavy rainfall. This unusual weather pattern resulted in the coldest day recorded in March in the past six years, highlighting the variability in the capital’s climate this season.
Air Quality Remains Moderate
Air pollution levels across Delhi remained within the moderate category, as recorded at multiple monitoring stations. Key locations such as Anand Vihar, Ashok Vihar, Chandni Chowk, and R.K. Puram reported readings that fall within acceptable limits, though still requiring caution for sensitive groups. Overall, the air quality situation remains stable but continues to require monitoring.
