Vietnam Boat Accident – Repatriation of Indian Victims Begins with Coordinated Efforts
Vietnam Boat Accident –The mortal remains of 15 Indian tourists who lost their lives in the tragic boat accident near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam are being brought back to India following extensive coordination between multiple government agencies. Among the deceased are three residents of Andhra Pradesh. According to official information, Vietnam Airlines Flight VN979 departed Ho Chi Minh City carrying the mortal remains and was scheduled to arrive at Mumbai Airport on Monday night. After landing, authorities are expected to complete customs, medical, and other statutory procedures before the remains are sent to their respective states.

Repatriation Process Underway
The Embassy of India in Vietnam stated that the flight was expected to reach Mumbai at approximately 9:30 pm. Officials indicated that documentation, customs clearance, and mandatory medical formalities would likely require another five to six hours. Once these procedures are completed, state authorities will coordinate the onward transportation of the victims to their hometowns while ensuring all legal requirements are fulfilled.
Andhra Pradesh Government Coordinates Return of Three Victims
The repatriation of the three victims from Andhra Pradesh is being supervised through coordinated efforts initiated under the guidance of Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu. A dedicated team from Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in New Delhi has been working closely with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian Embassy in Vietnam, the governments of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, airport officials, and other agencies to ensure the process is carried out respectfully and without unnecessary delays.
Officials said that continuous monitoring and direct coordination among all departments have helped streamline the arrangements. Following discussions led by Andhra Pradesh Bhavan Resident Commissioner Praveen Kumar, an international handling agency was appointed to manage the transfer of the three mortal remains from Mumbai to Hyderabad after all statutory clearances are completed.
Arrival Scheduled in Hyderabad
Subject to the completion of all required formalities, the mortal remains of G. Jayalakshmi, M. Srihari, and Ravitaje are expected to be flown from Mumbai to Hyderabad on IndiGo Flight 6E6362 early Tuesday morning. The flight is scheduled to depart at 5:45 am and arrive in Hyderabad at approximately 7:20 am.
State MSME Minister Kondapalli Srinivas is expected to receive the mortal remains at Hyderabad Airport. After the arrival, officials from the state’s Protocol Department and the Information and Public Relations Department will oversee the reception and coordinate the next stage of transportation.
District Authorities Prepare Final Journey
Senior officials deputed by the respective district collectors, accompanied by ambulances, will transport the mortal remains to Machilipatnam, Kadapa, and Hindupur. Local administrators and public representatives have been instructed to extend all necessary support to the grieving families while ensuring that the final journey of each victim is conducted with dignity and respect.
Support Extended to Survivors
Alongside the repatriation efforts, authorities have also continued assistance for those injured in the accident. Officials confirmed that emergency arrangements were made for the family of Galli Kishore, who remains in critical condition at a government hospital in Phu Quoc. Two of his close relatives were helped in obtaining emergency e-Visas and travelling to Vietnam. The Indian Embassy and local coordinating agencies are providing them with logistical assistance and other required support.
Authorities Continue Monitoring Operations
Government officials said the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan team remains actively engaged in coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Indian Embassy in Vietnam, Mumbai Airport authorities, and other concerned agencies. Their objective is to ensure that all victims are brought back to India respectfully while providing timely assistance to affected families throughout the process.
