Transport – Delhi to Introduce Women-Only Electric Bus Network Across 28 Key Corridors
Transport – The Delhi government is preparing to strengthen women’s access to secure and reliable public transport by launching a dedicated fleet of women-only electric bus services across important travel routes in the national capital.

The Delhi government has announced a major initiative aimed at making daily travel safer and more convenient for women. Transport Minister Pankaj Singh said on Wednesday that a dedicated network of 56 women-only electric bus services will soon begin operating across the city. The initiative is expected to improve accessibility while encouraging more women to use public transportation with greater confidence.
Dedicated Services Planned Across High-Demand Routes
According to the minister, the new network will operate along 28 corridors that witness a large number of women commuters every day. These routes have been selected after studying passenger movement patterns and identifying areas where female ridership is consistently high. The government believes the focused deployment of these services will help address travel concerns on some of Delhi’s busiest roads.
Ladies Special Buses for Daily Commuters
The upcoming network will include 30 Ladies Special electric bus trips running on 15 heavily used city routes. These services are intended to support women travelling for work, business, healthcare, and other daily needs. Officials expect that dedicated buses on these corridors will improve convenience while offering a more comfortable commuting experience.
University Routes to Support Students
In addition to city services, the government will introduce 26 University Ladies Special bus services covering 13 routes. These buses will connect important residential neighbourhoods with Delhi University’s North Campus and South Campus, along with several other leading educational institutions across the capital. The move is designed to make travel easier and safer for students who rely on public transport for their daily commute.
Route Selection Based on Passenger Movement
Transport Minister Pankaj Singh stated that the selected corridors were chosen after analysing areas with the highest concentration of women passengers. By focusing resources on these routes, the government aims to provide better transport facilities where demand is greatest. Officials believe this targeted approach will increase the effectiveness of the new services and benefit a significant number of commuters every day.
Electric Fleet Supports Sustainable Mobility
The women-only buses will be part of Delhi’s expanding electric public transport system, reflecting the government’s broader efforts to promote environmentally friendly mobility. Besides enhancing passenger safety, the electric fleet is expected to contribute to cleaner urban transportation by reducing vehicle emissions and supporting the city’s long-term sustainability goals.
Focus on Safety and Accessible Public Transport
The introduction of these dedicated services highlights the government’s continued emphasis on improving safety and accessibility within Delhi’s public transport network. By combining women-focused services with electric mobility, the administration aims to create a transport system that is both inclusive and environmentally responsible. Further operational details, including the launch schedule and route timings, are expected to be announced before the services become operational.
