Transport – Delhi Expands Electric Bus Fleet and EV Subsidy Rollout
Transport – Delhi took another step toward modernizing its public transport network on Friday, as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta unveiled a series of projects focused on electric mobility and infrastructure upgrades. The announcements were made during an event held at the Indraprastha Bus Depot, where new services and facilities were introduced to support a cleaner commuting system.
Electric Bus Fleet Expansion Gains Momentum
A major highlight of the event was the launch of 300 new electric buses, which will soon be integrated into the city’s transport system. These buses are expected to improve connectivity while reducing emissions linked to conventional fuel-based vehicles. Officials believe that the addition will help ease pressure on existing routes and offer a more comfortable travel experience for daily passengers.
Alongside the fleet expansion, the Chief Minister also introduced an inter-state electric bus route connecting Nanaksar in Delhi with Ghaziabad. This move is aimed at strengthening regional connectivity while promoting the use of environmentally friendly transport across city borders.
New Infrastructure to Support Transport Growth
In addition to service expansion, groundwork was laid for a new multi-storey office complex for the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). The proposed building is expected to enhance administrative efficiency and support the growing operational needs of the transport department.
Authorities noted that the infrastructure project reflects a broader effort to modernize public transport management systems. With increasing ridership and fleet size, the need for upgraded facilities has become more urgent.
EV Incentives Portal and Subsidy Distribution
Another key development was the launch of a dedicated portal for electric vehicle incentives. The platform is designed to simplify the application and disbursement process for subsidies, making it more accessible to eligible citizens.
During the event, the government also facilitated the transfer of more than Rs 24 crore in subsidies to 12,877 beneficiaries through direct benefit transfer. The payments were credited directly to recipients’ bank accounts, ensuring transparency and reducing delays.
Addressing Past Delays in Subsidy Payments
Speaking on the issue of pending subsidies, the Chief Minister acknowledged that earlier announcements had not translated into timely payments for many applicants. She stated that the current administration has taken corrective steps to streamline the process and eliminate bottlenecks.
The introduction of a more transparent system is intended to ensure that beneficiaries receive their dues without unnecessary waiting periods. Officials emphasized that the improved mechanism would help build trust and encourage more residents to adopt electric vehicles.
