Tragedy – A tragic accident at Bargi Dam in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district has left rescue teams grappling with emotionally distressing scenes, as efforts continue to recover victims from a submerged cruise boat.
Emotional Discovery During Recovery Efforts
Divers from a paramilitary rescue unit made a deeply moving discovery while retrieving bodies from the wreckage. During the operation, they found a woman holding her child tightly, a moment that rescuers described as profoundly heartbreaking. The team said separating the two proved extremely difficult due to the way they were locked together, reflecting the final moments of fear and protection.
Difficult Conditions Inside the Submerged Vessel
The diving team, which had been deployed from Agra, reported that working inside the overturned boat posed serious challenges. The vessel’s interior had collapsed in several places, leaving behind twisted metal, sharp iron rods, and very limited space to maneuver. These conditions significantly slowed down the recovery process and increased the risk for rescuers.
According to team members, visibility underwater was extremely poor, making it harder to locate victims and navigate through the wreckage. In some areas, divers had to break through parts of the structure using tools to create narrow entry points, allowing them to continue their search.

The operation has not been without danger for the rescuers themselves. One diver reportedly became trapped inside the wreckage while navigating through a confined section of the boat. Fortunately, fellow team members were able to act quickly and bring the diver to safety without injury.
Rescue workers also noted that their equipment frequently got entangled in broken sections of the boat and protruding metal rods. These obstacles required careful handling and slowed progress, as any sudden movement could worsen the already unstable structure.
Ongoing Recovery and Rescue Numbers
Despite the hazardous conditions, the diving team has managed to recover five bodies so far from the reservoir. Among them are four adults and one child. Officials confirmed that the search operation is still ongoing as teams continue to scan the area for any remaining victims.
