TrafficManagement – Delhi Authorities Intensify Action Against Encroachments and Illegal Parking
TrafficManagement – A large-scale enforcement campaign conducted jointly by Delhi Police and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has resulted in the removal of thousands of encroachments and illegally parked vehicles across the capital. The initiative was launched to improve traffic movement, enhance pedestrian safety, and encourage the use of authorized parking facilities throughout the city.

Four-Day Enforcement Campaign Across Delhi
The coordinated drive was carried out between June 3 and June 6 across multiple traffic circles and administrative zones. Officials focused on key roads, busy marketplaces, footpaths, service lanes, and other high-traffic locations where unauthorized occupation of public spaces had been affecting daily commuting and creating safety concerns.
According to senior traffic officials, enforcement teams identified several areas where roadside vendors, temporary structures, and unauthorized parking were restricting the movement of both vehicles and pedestrians. These locations were prioritized to restore road capacity and improve accessibility.
Thousands of Encroachments Cleared
During the operation, authorities took action at 144 different sites across the national capital in the first week of June. A total of 1,264 roadside vendor encroachments were removed from roads and pedestrian pathways. Additionally, 1,015 temporary kiosks, unauthorized commercial displays, illegal extensions, and similar structures were dismantled to free public spaces.
Officials stated that market spillovers and roadside activities often reduce the usable width of roads, leading to severe congestion, particularly during peak travel hours. Such activities also limit pedestrian movement and create challenges for traffic management.
Action Against Unauthorized Parking
A major component of the campaign involved tackling illegal and abandoned vehicles occupying public roads and footpaths. Enforcement teams removed 3,123 vehicles found obstructing traffic flow and pedestrian access.
Authorities also initiated 55,532 enforcement actions against motorists and other violators whose activities were contributing to congestion and road safety risks. Traffic officials emphasized that unauthorized parking frequently occupies valuable carriageway space, reducing road efficiency and discouraging drivers from using nearby designated parking facilities.
Focus on Safer Roads and Better Parking Utilization
Officials highlighted that the campaign was designed not only to address civic violations but also to improve overall road safety and emergency access. Encroachments and improper parking can significantly affect traffic movement, pedestrian convenience, and the ability of emergency services to respond quickly when required.
Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Manish Aggarwal urged residents and commuters to avoid parking vehicles on roads, public spaces, and footpaths that are not designated for parking. He stressed that such practices create unnecessary obstacles for both motorists and pedestrians.
Aggarwal also encouraged citizens to make use of authorized parking facilities developed by civic agencies and called upon Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), Market Welfare Associations (MWAs), and local communities to support ongoing traffic management efforts.
MCD Commissioner Reviews Civic Infrastructure
Separately, Municipal Corporation of Delhi Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar conducted an inspection of various locations within the Civil Lines zone on Tuesday. The visit focused on sanitation measures and pollution control initiatives being implemented in the area.
During the inspection, Khirwar visited the Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste processing facility at Jahangirpuri, which is capable of handling 2,000 tonnes of waste per day. He directed officials to install protective sheets around the plant and deploy additional water sprinklers to minimize dust emissions and strengthen environmental safeguards.
The inspection formed part of the civic body’s broader efforts to improve urban cleanliness and reduce pollution-related concerns across Delhi.
