Tourism – Andhra Pradesh Expands Tourism Push With Major Investment Plans
Tourism – Andhra Pradesh has unveiled an extensive tourism expansion strategy aimed at strengthening the state economy through large-scale investments, hospitality development and employment generation. The government plans to attract investments worth more than Rs 20,000 crore while creating jobs for over 1.22 lakh people through a series of tourism-focused projects across different regions of the state.

New Tourism Policy Focuses on Private Investment
The State government has introduced its Tourism Policy 2024-29 with the objective of transforming Andhra Pradesh into a leading tourism destination offering diverse travel experiences. Officials say the policy has been designed to encourage public-private partnerships and improve investor confidence in the tourism sector.
Under the revised policy framework, tourism has been granted industrial status, allowing investors to benefit from incentives such as capital subsidies, reimbursement of State GST and exemptions on stamp duty. Authorities have also implemented a Tourism Land Allotment Policy to make land allocation for tourism ventures more transparent and streamlined.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has repeatedly described tourism as a key contributor to the state’s future economic growth. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has also emphasized the need for better infrastructure and stronger tourism promotion initiatives.
Hospitality Brands Prepare New Projects
According to government figures, 117 Memorandums of Understanding have already been signed in the tourism sector during the last two years. These agreements are expected to support employment opportunities for nearly 1.22 lakh people across hospitality, transport and related industries.
Several international and domestic hotel chains are preparing to expand operations in Andhra Pradesh. Hospitality groups including Taj Hotels, Marriott International, ITC Hotels, Hyatt Hotels Corporation, Oberoi Hotels & Resorts and Hilton Hotels & Resorts are expected to establish new projects that could collectively add more than 7,700 hotel rooms in the state.
The government has also set long-term targets that include developing 50,000 classified hotel rooms, establishing 10,000 homestays and generating nearly five lakh jobs linked to tourism activities over the coming years.
Tourism Hubs and Circuits Under Development
As part of infrastructure expansion, Andhra Pradesh is developing seven major tourism hubs in destinations such as Visakhapatnam, Araku Valley, Rajamahendravaram, Amaravati, Srisailam, Gandikota and Tirupati. Officials are additionally planning more than 25 tourism circuits connecting important travel destinations across the state.
The cities of Amaravati, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati are also being promoted as MICE destinations for meetings, conferences, exhibitions and business events. Authorities believe this segment can contribute significantly to year-round tourism activity.
Adventure and Spiritual Tourism Receive Attention
The government is introducing new tourism concepts including luxury cruise tourism, heli-tourism, caravan travel, floating houseboats, eco-tourism and adventure activities. Water sports facilities are being upgraded at destinations such as Suryalanka Beach, Bhavani Island and Gandikota.
Spiritual and cultural tourism is also receiving increased focus with infrastructure improvements planned at major pilgrimage centres including Tirumala Temple, Srisailam Temple, Kanaka Durga Temple, Antarvedi Temple and Simhachalam Temple.
Homestay Network and Tourist Arrivals Grow
To support community-based tourism, the tourism department has partnered with travel platforms such as Airbnb, MakeMyTrip and Booking.com. Officials stated that around 1,855 homestays have already been connected through the dedicated AP Homestay portal.
The Central government has sanctioned Rs 428 crore for eight tourism development projects in Andhra Pradesh under different schemes. These include infrastructure work at Borra Caves, Suryalanka Beach, Gandikota, Simhachalam and Annavaram, with several projects expected to be completed by July 2026.
Government data further showed that domestic tourist arrivals in Andhra Pradesh recorded a 10.10 percent increase compared to the previous year, while foreign tourist visits rose by 126 percent.
Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh said the state offers strong opportunities for tourism-related investments and invited businesses and entrepreneurs to participate with new ideas and projects. He also assured investors of full government support for tourism development initiatives
