Technology – Andhra Pradesh Unveils Roadmap to Modernise MSMEs Through Green Innovation

Technology –  Andhra Pradesh has taken a significant step toward strengthening its industrial sector with the launch of a large-scale initiative focused on improving energy and water efficiency among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The programme, led by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Power, aims to introduce advanced global technologies across industrial clusters in the state while supporting long-term economic and environmental goals.

Plan Focuses on Sustainable Industrial Expansion

The initiative comes after the successful AP MSME Growth Summit 2026, organised by the state’s Industries Department. It reflects the government’s broader vision of promoting modern manufacturing practices, sustainable industrial development and environmentally responsible economic growth.

EESL Chief Executive Officer Akhilesh Kumar Dixit, working closely with the Andhra Pradesh MSME Development Corporation (APMSME-DC), has approved a structured implementation strategy with clear timelines. The programme is designed to help enterprises improve operational efficiency while reducing resource consumption and production costs.

Advanced Technologies to Reach Industrial Clusters

Under the approved framework, EESL will introduce a range of energy-saving and water-conservation technologies across multiple MSME clusters in Andhra Pradesh. The project will also include extensive technical assessments and training programmes to support businesses during the transition.

Officials said the programme will cover diagnostic studies and cluster mapping across 15 industrial clusters. In addition, investment-grade energy audits will be conducted for 452 MSMEs, while 300 enterprises will undergo detailed water audits. These assessments are expected to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and technology adoption.

Government Support Strengthens the Initiative

EESL acknowledged the support extended by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in advancing the project. During the AP MSME Growth Summit 2026, APMSME-DC formally handed over the work order to EESL in the presence of Industries and MSME Ministers T.G. Bharat and K. Srinivas, Industries Secretary N. Yuva Raj, and APMSME Chief Executive Officer M. Viswa.

The event marked the official commencement of what officials describe as one of the country’s most comprehensive MSME sustainability programmes. The initiative is being implemented under the Government of India’s Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Programme and aligns with the AP MSME & Entrepreneur Development Policy 4.0.

Lower Costs and Higher Competitiveness Expected

Authorities believe the project will help businesses lower operating and maintenance expenses while increasing productivity and market competitiveness. By encouraging efficient use of electricity and water resources, the programme is also expected to contribute to environmental conservation efforts.

Industry experts note that modern resource-efficient technologies can help smaller businesses remain competitive in domestic and international markets while supporting sustainable manufacturing practices.

Employment Opportunities Likely to Increase

Beyond efficiency improvements, the initiative is expected to create substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities throughout Andhra Pradesh. Officials believe the project could encourage the growth of a new green industrial services sector by generating demand for skilled workers, energy auditors, technicians, technology providers, sustainability consultants and specialised service companies.

According to Industries Secretary N. Yuva Raj, the current implementation phase represents only the beginning of a much broader industrial transformation that could reshape the state’s manufacturing ecosystem in the coming years.

Collaboration With Progressive States Seen as Key

EESL has also highlighted the importance of cooperation among industrially advanced states such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Such partnerships, officials said, can help accelerate the adoption of modern industrial technologies and support the development of sustainable manufacturing systems across the country.
