SecurityRules – The Delhi government has announced a fresh set of instructions ahead of Bakrid celebrations, warning residents that any violation related to illegal animal sacrifice or poor sanitation practices will lead to legal action.
The advisory was released on Friday by the Development Department as part of preparations to maintain public order, cleanliness, and civic discipline during the festival period. Authorities said the measures are aimed at ensuring that celebrations are conducted within the framework of existing laws and municipal regulations.
Government Warns Against Illegal Animal Sacrifice
Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra stated that the sacrifice of banned animals, including cows, calves, camels, and other restricted species, is not permitted anywhere in the national capital. He cautioned that strict criminal proceedings would be initiated against individuals found violating these rules.
In a message shared on social media platform X, the minister stressed that the administration would not tolerate unlawful practices during the festival. According to him, law enforcement agencies and local authorities have been instructed to remain alert and take immediate action wherever violations are reported.
Officials said the restrictions are in line with existing legal provisions related to animal protection and public administration in Delhi.
Public Places Cannot Be Used for Sacrifice
The government has also prohibited animal sacrifice in open public areas such as roads, streets, alleys, and marketplaces. Authorities clarified that only approved and designated locations can be used for such activities during Bakrid.
The administration noted that performing sacrifices in public spaces often leads to traffic disruption, sanitation concerns, and inconvenience for residents. To avoid such situations, district officials and civic agencies have been directed to monitor sensitive areas across the city.
The minister reiterated that any person conducting or attempting sacrifice at unauthorised locations would face legal consequences under applicable laws.
Strict Instructions on Waste Disposal
Alongside restrictions on sacrifice locations, the Delhi government has issued detailed directions regarding disposal of animal waste. Residents have been instructed not to throw remains into drains, sewers, or public spaces.
Officials warned that improper disposal can block drainage systems and create serious environmental and health risks, especially during the monsoon season. The administration stated that sanitation teams would remain active during the festival to ensure cleanliness standards are maintained across the capital.
Authorities further explained that dumping blood or waste materials into public drains could invite penal action from civic departments and local police.
Citizens Asked to Report Violations
The government has appealed to residents to cooperate with officials and immediately report any breach of the guidelines. People have been encouraged to contact the police or the Development Department if they witness illegal animal sacrifice, misuse of public spaces, or unsafe waste disposal practices.
Officials believe public participation will help maintain communal harmony, hygiene, and law and order during the festival period.
Preparations Underway Across the Capital
The latest advisory comes as Delhi authorities intensify preparations for Bakrid celebrations across different parts of the city. Police personnel, municipal workers, and administrative officers are expected to coordinate efforts to manage crowds, maintain sanitation, and ensure compliance with government regulations.
Civic bodies are also likely to increase monitoring in densely populated localities and areas where large gatherings are anticipated during the festival.
