In a message shared through her official social media account, the President said the operation demonstrated the country’s unwavering stand against terror threats. She commended the courage, discipline, and professionalism shown by military personnel during the mission and said the nation remains united and alert against any attempt to disturb national security.

Response to the Pahalgam Terror Attack

The operation was launched after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam in 2025 that resulted in the deaths of 26 people. The incident triggered a strong response from Indian security forces and led to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.

President Murmu referred to the military action as a measured and precise response to the attack. She stated that individuals and groups attempting to threaten India should understand that the country is fully prepared to defend itself whenever necessary.

Operation Targeted Terror Infrastructure

Operation Sindoor began on May 7, 2025, with Indian armed forces carrying out coordinated strikes on terror infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. According to official information released after the operation, nine major terror launchpads linked to organisations such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen were destroyed.

Security officials had earlier stated that more than 100 terrorists were killed during the strikes. The operation was presented as part of India’s broader counterterrorism strategy aimed at dismantling militant infrastructure across the border.

Four-Day Military Tension Followed the Strikes

Following the Indian operation, Pakistan reportedly responded with drone activity and cross-border shelling, leading to several days of military confrontation between the two neighbouring countries. During the escalation, Indian defence forces carried out retaliatory actions targeting radar systems and strategic military installations, including facilities in Lahore and areas near Gujranwala.

The situation remained tense for four days before both sides moved toward de-escalation through military communication channels. Officials later confirmed that the Directors General of Military Operations from both countries were in contact to prevent further escalation.

Ceasefire Brought an End to Hostilities

A ceasefire understanding was reached on May 10, 2025, bringing the hostilities to a halt. The agreement helped restore relative calm after days of military exchanges and rising concerns over regional stability.

On the anniversary of the operation, tributes continued to pour in for members of the armed forces who participated in the mission. President Murmu said the country remains proud of the bravery and sacrifices made by soldiers in protecting the nation during difficult situations.

India’s leadership has repeatedly maintained that national security and the fight against terrorism will continue to remain top priorities for the government and defence establishment.
