Speaking on the anniversary of the operation, Modi said the mission carried out in 2025 showcased the determination of India’s defence forces in responding to threats against civilians and the nation’s security interests. He stated that the armed forces acted with exceptional professionalism while targeting terror infrastructure across the border.

The prime minister noted that the operation sent a strong message against terrorism and reaffirmed India’s resolve to dismantle networks supporting extremist activities. According to him, the armed forces displayed remarkable discipline and operational readiness during the mission.

Tribute to Armed Forces

In his remarks, Modi paid tribute to soldiers involved in the operation and said the country continues to honour their bravery and dedication. He added that the action reflected the growing coordination among India’s military services and security agencies.

The prime minister also highlighted the role of self-reliance in strengthening India’s defence capabilities. He said advancements in domestic defence production and military preparedness have contributed significantly to the country’s security framework over the past few years.

According to Modi, the operation represented not only a tactical response but also a demonstration of India’s ability to conduct coordinated security operations with efficiency and precision.

Background of Operation Sindoor

Operation Sindoor was conducted between May 7 and May 10, 2025, along the western border involving the Indian Army, Air Force, Navy and the Border Security Force. The operation targeted terror camps and military-linked infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

The military response came after the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, in which 26 people lost their lives. Most of the victims were tourists visiting the region at the time of the attack. The incident had triggered widespread condemnation across the country and renewed calls for strong action against terrorism.

Focus on National Security

Government officials have repeatedly described Operation Sindoor as a significant example of India’s security policy against cross-border terrorism. Defence analysts also viewed the operation as an indication of deeper coordination between different branches of the armed forces.

Modi said India remains firm in its commitment to counter terrorism and protect citizens from security threats. He added that the country’s determination to eliminate terror infrastructure and support systems remains unchanged even a year after the operation.

The anniversary of the mission has once again brought attention to India’s broader efforts towards defence modernisation, border security and counterterrorism preparedness. Political leaders and military officials across the country have also acknowledged the contribution of security personnel who participated in the operation.
