Railway Security – Nandigram Express Coupe Decoration Triggers Inquiry
Railway Security – A private celebration inside a first-class AC coupe on the Nandigram Express has prompted a railway inquiry after a decorator entered the train without permission at Jalna station. The incident came to light after videos of the decorated compartment circulated widely on social media.

Decorator Entered First AC Coach Without Approval
The couple, travelling on Train No. 11002 Nandigram Express on July 6, had reportedly arranged an online decorator to prepare their private coupe for a special occasion. Balloons, flowers and rose petals were used to decorate the compartment before or during the journey.
However, railway authorities said the decorator was not authorised to enter the coach. Officials also found that the person had boarded the train at Jalna station without a valid ticket or official clearance to access the first AC section.
Railways described the matter as a serious security failure, particularly because the person was able to reach a reserved premium coach without being stopped.
Railway Staff Member Suspended Pending Investigation
Following the incident, the railway administration suspended the staff member believed to be responsible for the lapse. A departmental investigation has been launched to determine how the decorator was allowed to enter the train and whether established checking procedures were ignored.
In its statement, the Railways said the couple had privately hired the decorator through an online arrangement. It added that the decorator’s entry into the coach at Jalna was unauthorised and that the case was being treated seriously.
Officials said further disciplinary action would depend on the findings of the inquiry. The investigation is expected to examine the role of railway personnel on duty at the station and inside the train, along with the security process followed for first AC passengers.
Case Registered Under Railway Act Provisions
The decorator has been booked under relevant sections of the Railway Act, according to railway officials. The allegations include entering the train without authorisation, travelling without a ticket and trespassing in a restricted railway area.
Railway officials said passengers cannot independently permit outside individuals to board trains or enter reserved coaches, even for personal arrangements. Such access requires approval through proper railway channels, especially in premium and reserved compartments where passenger safety and privacy are closely monitored.
The case has also raised questions about how unauthorised people can gain access to long-distance trains at busy stations. Authorities are expected to review the incident to identify whether additional checks are needed at boarding points.
Viral Video Brought Incident Into Public View
The matter drew wider attention after a video of the decorated coupe appeared online. The footage showed balloons, floral arrangements and rose petals placed inside the compartment as part of the couple’s planned surprise.
While the decoration itself attracted attention online, railway authorities focused on the security concern linked to the decorator’s unauthorised presence on the train. The video’s circulation helped bring the episode to the notice of officials, leading to action against the staff member and the decorator.
Railways Stress Rules for Passenger Safety
Railway authorities have reiterated that train coaches, particularly reserved AC compartments, cannot be accessed by people who do not hold valid travel documents or official permission. Passengers planning special arrangements during a journey are expected to follow railway rules and seek approval where necessary.
The inquiry into the Nandigram Express incident will determine whether other employees were involved and whether any additional action is required. Railway officials said appropriate steps would be taken after the departmental investigation is completed.
