PowerCut – Planned Electricity Shutdown Across Delhi for System Maintenance

PowerCut – Several parts of Delhi will face temporary power interruptions on Monday, March 30, as distribution company BSES undertakes scheduled maintenance work. The planned outages, expected to last between three to four hours in most areas, are part of preparations to strengthen the electricity network ahead of the high-demand summer season.

Scheduled Outage Timings and Areas

The power supply will be suspended between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM across multiple locations. The maintenance schedule has been organised into three broad categories based on regions.

Maintenance Work in West Delhi Hotspots

In West Delhi, key residential zones such as Janakpuri and Subhash Nagar will undergo repair work in Blocks 4, 5, and 6, along with Aditi Apartments. Residents in Rajouri Garden Extension, particularly Blocks J and J-9, will also experience outages due to maintenance of Ring Main Units (RMUs).

Additionally, areas like Paschim Vihar and Jwalapuri will see disruptions as teams carry out repairs on the 11KV feeder network. This includes locations such as Virat Apartments, Jwalapuri Camp-5, and Sunder Vihar (GH10), where technical upgrades are scheduled during the same time window.

South Delhi and Rural Belt to See Temporary Cuts

In South Delhi, localities including Vasant Kunj and Ghitorni will experience shorter outages. Maintenance activities in Anand Gram and Ghitorni Village are scheduled from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, limiting the disruption to approximately one and a half hours.

In the Najafgarh region and nearby areas, transformer servicing will be carried out in residential pockets such as Asalatpur Khawad, Durga Vihar-I, and Qutub Vihar. These efforts are aimed at ensuring stable power distribution during peak usage periods.

Meanwhile, in Okhla’s Joga Bai area, the power supply will be interrupted for a shorter duration of one hour, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.

Palam Area Also Included in Shutdown Plan

Residents in Palam, specifically Raj Nagar Extension (Block F), will face power suspension from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. This maintenance window aligns with similar works being conducted across South Delhi to minimise long-term disruptions.

Reason Behind the Planned Power Cuts

According to BSES, these outages are part of preventive maintenance rather than a response to any fault or emergency. The initiative focuses on inspecting and upgrading critical infrastructure such as transformers, feeders, and distribution systems.

The objective is to reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns during the summer months, particularly in June and July when electricity demand reaches its peak. By addressing potential issues in advance, authorities aim to avoid sudden outages and safety incidents, including overheating or fire hazards.

Public Cooperation Requested

While the scheduled cuts may cause temporary inconvenience, officials emphasise that such measures are necessary to ensure uninterrupted and reliable electricity supply in the coming months. Residents are advised to plan their activities accordingly during the outage hours.

BSES has urged citizens to cooperate with the maintenance efforts, highlighting that these proactive steps play a crucial role in maintaining the city’s power stability during extreme weather conditions.
