Politics – Uddhav Thackeray Revives Hindutva Campaign Over Ayodhya Donation Row

Politics – Allegations surrounding the handling of donations at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir have become the latest political flashpoint in Maharashtra, with Shiv Sena (UBT) using the controversy to intensify its outreach among Hindu voters.

Uddhav hindutva ayodhya donation row

The alleged irregularities involving donations made to the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya have opened a fresh political battle, prompting Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray to sharpen the party’s Hindutva narrative. Party leaders believe the issue offers an opportunity to reconnect with sections of the traditional Hindu electorate that gradually shifted their support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the past several years. As part of this renewed campaign, Thackeray has announced the “Ram Raksha Andolan,” scheduled to be held at the Ram Temple in Nagpur’s Ram Nagar on July 18.

Religious Campaign Linked to Political Outreach

The upcoming programme follows an earlier religious event organised by the party on July 5 at Mumbai’s historic Hanuman Temple in Dadar. During that gathering, Uddhav Thackeray, accompanied by senior party leaders, participated in prayers and recited the Hanuman Chalisa, Hanuman Stotra and Ram Raksha Stotra.

According to Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders, these events are not isolated religious activities but part of a wider campaign designed to reinforce the party’s identity as the political force that originally championed Hindutva under the leadership of the late Balasaheb Thackeray. The leadership hopes the initiative will strengthen its connection with voters who now support the BJP.

Demand for Inquiry Into Temple Donations

Party representatives have stated that the Ram Raksha Andolan seeks an independent investigation into allegations concerning the misuse and alleged theft of donations contributed by devotees to the Ayodhya Ram Mandir. They have also accused the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of failing to ensure transparency in the management of temple funds, gifts and ornaments.

Nagpur, where the protest is scheduled, holds political significance because it is home to the headquarters of the RSS, the ideological mentor of the BJP. Party strategists believe the choice of venue underlines the political message they intend to convey during the campaign.

Uddhav Thackeray Targets BJP Over Allegations

Addressing supporters, Uddhav Thackeray strongly criticised the BJP over the controversy. He alleged that those responsible for managing the temple had failed to protect the offerings made by devotees and questioned the party’s claim of representing Hindutva.

Thackeray argued that if allegations regarding temple donations prove true, it raises serious concerns about accountability in institutions established under the BJP-led government. He further claimed that people were becoming increasingly aware of the issue and appealed to citizens to support the party’s movement demanding greater transparency.

The BJP has not accepted these allegations, and the matter continues to remain part of the political debate surrounding the Ram Mandir.

Aaditya Thackeray Raises Issue in Assembly

The controversy also echoed in the recently concluded Maharashtra Assembly session, where Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray criticised the BJP over the alleged irregularities linked to temple donations. During his speech, he questioned whether those facing such allegations could legitimately claim leadership on issues related to Hindutva or devotion to Lord Ram.

Aaditya Thackeray also highlighted his party’s record of public service during emergencies, saying Shiv Sena (UBT) had consistently worked for people in difficult times. A video of his Assembly speech later gained significant attention across social media platforms, helping the party amplify its message beyond the legislature.

As political parties continue to position themselves around religious and governance-related issues ahead of future electoral contests, the Ayodhya donation controversy has emerged as another point of confrontation in Maharashtra’s evolving political landscape.
