Recognition from the Prime Minister

In his public message, the Prime Minister acknowledged Naidu’s commitment to governance and development. He expressed hope for the Chief Minister’s long and healthy life in continued service to the public. The remarks reflected both personal goodwill and political recognition of Naidu’s role in shaping the state’s growth trajectory.

Early Political Journey and Rise

Chandrababu Naidu’s career in politics stretches back several decades. After completing his education at Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati, he entered public life through the Indian Youth Congress during the 1970s. His rise was swift, as he secured a legislative assembly seat from Chandragiri in 1978 and later held a position in the state cabinet.

Although he began his political career with the Congress party, the shifting political landscape of the early 1980s led him to join the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), founded by N.T. Rama Rao. This move proved decisive in shaping his long-term political path.

Leadership in the Telugu Desam Party

Naidu played a central role in strengthening the TDP during challenging periods. In 1995, he assumed leadership of the party and took office as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. His administration introduced significant changes in governance, focusing on efficiency, economic reforms, and modernization.

His leadership style was often compared to corporate management practices, earning him the informal title of a “CEO Chief Minister.” He emphasized attracting investments, improving infrastructure, and promoting innovation in administration.

Driving Technology and Economic Growth

One of the defining features of Naidu’s tenure was the transformation of Hyderabad into a major information technology center. The city emerged as a key destination for global technology companies, placing it alongside other prominent IT hubs in India.

During this period, the state also witnessed expansion in sectors such as pharmaceuticals and education. His reform-oriented policies gained recognition at international forums, where Andhra Pradesh’s development model was often discussed.

Political Setbacks and Resilience

Despite his achievements, Naidu’s political journey has included significant challenges. The Telugu Desam Party lost power in 2004, and the party faced another major defeat in 2019 against Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. These setbacks tested his leadership and political base.

However, Naidu remained active in public life, working to rebuild support and maintain relevance in both state and national politics. His ability to navigate difficult periods has been a consistent feature of his career.

Challenges After State Bifurcation

Following the division of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, Naidu faced the complex task of rebuilding the state’s administrative and economic framework. He proposed Amaravati as the new capital and initiated plans for its development.

The process, however, encountered financial constraints and political hurdles. During this period, disagreements with the central government over issues such as special category status led to a temporary break from the National Democratic Alliance in 2018.

Return to Political Prominence

In recent years, Naidu has seen a revival in his political fortunes. Despite facing legal challenges and a brief period of imprisonment in 2023, he regained public support.

The 2024 elections marked a significant comeback, as he led an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Jana Sena Party to secure strong victories in both state assembly and parliamentary polls. His renewed influence also positioned him as an important partner in national politics.
